MARY POPPINS RETURNS | Disney | 12.19.18 | Rob Marshall directing | Emily Blunt, Lin Manuel Miranda

Recommended Posts

It’s funny to see that even the only 3 negative tweets about the movie still are saying it will be a big crowd pleaser and a massive success.

It’s already tracking at $ 70-80M, i think closer to release it will be tracking at $ 80-90M and finally will debut with $ 90-100M (full week) and then have excellent legs.

It's quite funny how I see a multitude of positive reviews and think "it might be ok". Then I see one negative and think "it's over".

Anyway. What is the prediction from early impressions reviews specialists?

Over 90% RT

It will be acclaimed for sure, i’ve seen i don’t know... 40 tweets or more and just 3 didn’t like (and even those says the movie has some qualities).

From early reception, i expect something like 92-95% on RT.

For awards people didn’t say much.

A lot of tweets seem like "good not great" material. It'll still be positive, but reviews will probably be more 7/10 than 9/10.

The general vibe I'm getting from critics is it'll land somewhere in the low to mid 70s on Meta. Audiences will 100% go nuts for it; dunno if it can get nominated for anything above the line outside of Blunt (who I might predict for the win  ).

Sometimes it's so difficult to predict movies that one has virtually no interest in seeing. The critics gave Beauty and the Beast passable reviews so of course it doesn't matter what Poppins actual quality is, it will get good reviews. Just don't know how it will click with modern audiences.

I have no idea what Mary Poppins is about, she is a baby sitter ?

Which probably gives you an idea of the fate of this movie OS outside of the Common Wealth.

In my country it is a known property mostly because of the stage musical that was a big hit here

Wrong.

In Europe MP is a very well known IP, mostly because there was also another movie stared by Julie Andrews, Gone With The Wind  ... whaaaaaaaat??? The Sound Of Music, settled in Europe during the war ... and Julie Andrews became very famous all around Europe because of those musical movies, for all ages, not only kids but also adults.

So if you add Europe to the Common Wealth, you already have a bigger number of markets being keen on MP than SW 😕 Don't know about Latin America or Japan though.
