$1.3M from sneaks.  Jumanji got $1.86M for comparison.  Same sneaks to OW multi brings HT3's weekend to $25.2M.  Jumanji opened during the holiday season though, so it's not a perfect comparison.

Also doesn't help that Jumanji opened on a Wednesday, and HT3 had matinee prices while Jumanji had evening. Still seems really solid though.

J2 was a 4 quadrant film during the winter holidays.

HT3 is going for the family/kids audience during the summer.

Ahhh but see I saw the film and to everyone's positive reaction, this left me feeling sour. With “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation“ the film relies so much on the humor that the visual gags take the front seat, animation takes the back, and the story is in the trunk.

Eh, Stuckmann liked it, and while I don't always agree with him, his praise gives me enough to check it out at least one afternoon, considering I ain't paying a dime for it. I liked the first 2 well enough, and I don't think this is going to be another Ice Age 5 at all.

 

I also remember a lot of people, myself included, were predicting a relatively big drop-off for the second movie. I for one was stunned when it broke the September record, and I wouldn't be surprised if this comes close to 40 for opening

good to see it is getting some good 4-star reviews reviews.  likely the first animated film this year that is not in contention for Best Picture.

This is the first HT movie that Genndy Tartakovsky wrote, so the better reviews isn't surprising compared to the first two HT.

you will have to excuse any forecasters.  it should be a tight race at #1 and movie box office is literally unpredictable for scientific reasons.  Sunday estimates might even report the wrong movie bringing a feeling like when a sporting game is penalized and overturned in overtime.

Can this alternative animation actually take it?  If Mi6 does 60m and 10% of that was from kids under the ages of 17, and Teen Titans does 10m with 60% coming from under the ages of 17, then that is 6 million each.   Ice Age 5 opened around 22 million, Storks, Captain Underpants Emoji and Lego Ninjago did around the same.  This year has just been Peter Rabbit, Sherlock Gnomes, and Incredibles 2.  Other than Ferdinand and Coco, I cannot really think of any other ones that have opened everywhere.

Hotel Transylvania goes alternative IMO with the monsters concept.  I don't know where I would put Monsters Inc., but with Hotel Transylvania I think you would get a PG rating as opposed to a G rating.  I thought last summer Emoji Movie was sort of an alternative animated concept, and Ice Age 5 would be a straight to the books sequel that plummets 50% from its predecessor.  I have not seen the Hotel Transylvania movies or the Ice Age sequels so I do not know what is brewing for HT3, like is there is already $30 million in pent up demand at home hiding away and a 'pop culture appetite walkup swing towards yes on animated film at full price' from adults that will add another 50% to that 30 million for 45 million OW.  I don't think a measure of HT3's audience would be in the 75m OW range like Ant-Man, and just waiting to explode.

whatever happens, it should be a lovely war at the box office this weekend.

Who actually looks at the average rating?

I meant the RT percentage score. HT3 has a 82% score right now, a bit higher than the first two which got more mixed reviews (45% and 55%)

Anyway, there are just a few reviews so far. Many more will be coming in this week.

Meh, who cares that much about the average rating? Doesn’t seem to negatively affect many movies over the 70-90%+ on RT.

I just saw the trailer in front of second Incredibles viewing and is it just the main character exactly like Gru from Despicable  Me. He even sounds similar

Going to the 5:00 pm showing tonight. Figured I’d go to that instead of 7:20 and 9:30. 

 

Though I hate kids I’m theatres cause they make too much noise I prob should have done the 9 but I doubt this will be near Incredibles 2 like so a few kids in the audience won’t bother me.

I chose Ant-Man & Wasp over The First Purge. Ant-Man & Wasp was okay, not great. So I'm giving Purge a shot this weekend. Transylvania looks like it could be funny with the Van Helsing ancestry thing 🤣...if I get there early, I may squeeze that in.

Nearly like the ”Madagascar”-franchise of Sony. With films getting better and better reception with each film. Though, Madagascar has two fresh movies with it’s sequels.
