The Intern welcomed $11.7 million from its first 40 overseas markets, raking more than 1.9 million admissions on 3.9k screens. Top debuts include South Korea ($2.7M), Germany ($1.5M), Russia ($1.4M), and Taiwan ($1M). The comedy expands to the UK, Mexico, and Australia next week. The Intern has grossed $30 million globally.

Very good hold in Germany with almost no advertising. I'm surprised. It had 123k admissions last weekend here (without previews) and for this weekend insidekino.de predicts 95k admissions (third trend). Speaks for a nice long-term-run.

The Intern held strong in its second weekend of release grossing $15.7 million from 57 overseas markets. Nancy Meyer’s film is up to $35.6 million at the international box office and $72.12 million worldwide. Among openers, Australia opened in 2nd place with $1.65 million from 305 screens, Mexico bowed to a 4-day $1.2 million debut across 615 screens, and the UK/Ireland premiered with $1.2 million from 433 screens. The strongest holdover market was South Korea, actually increasing 51% over opening weekend with $4.1 million and taking the 11-day total there to $9.8 million. Russia dropped just 17% for $1.1 million and $3.0 million total while Taiwan took 2nd place, falling 7% for $994K from 95 screens. The Intern has passed the lifetime cumes of all Nancy Meyer’s films on the island with a $3.3 million after two weekends of release.

The Intern earned $7.8 million from 66 territories this weekend. South Korea continued its excellent run with $1.7 million from 431 screens in its 5th weekend of release. With $21.4 million total, The Intern has now surpassed the entire runs of Titanic and Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Nancy Meyers’ comedy has earned $91.1 million overseas and$155.8 million worldwide.

The Intern crossed the $100 million mark overseas this weekend after bringing in $5.65 million from 3,512 screens across 66 territories. South Korea continues to hold surprisingly well, grossing $1.1 million from 400 screens in its sixth frame and reporting a $23.1 million cume. Spain was the top new market of the weekend with a $640k bow from 244 screens. Top markets for the film include Japan ($9.9M), Taiwan ($7.1M), Australia ($6M), and Mexico ($5.3M). The Intern has grossed a total of $101.3 million overseas and $169.8 million globally.

The Intern earned $2.8 million from 63 markets this weekend, bringing the international cume to $108.6 million and the global total to $180.0 million. Spain dropped just 16% in its second weekend, grossing $590K for a $2.1 million cume. The Intern’s top 5 markets are South Korea ($24.0M), Japan ($11.9M), Taiwan ($7.5M), Australia ($6.2M), and Mexico ($5.7M).
