The initial 2022 date was definitely made with the plan that In The Heights would give Ramos a big boost which didn't work out. No idea if delaying to 2024 will be a good idea or not, it will be way too long since the last proper Transformers movie, but likely not long enough for a generational nostalgia to kick in.

Maybe. But also Paramount hasn't really given anything the green light since the new regime took over and might be simply filling out their schedule for the next two years with projects already made to buy themselves time.

Dead at the fact they think this will be a trilogy. That is how failed trilogies work, by announcing they are a trilogy more than a year before the first movie is released.

Terminator has a trilogy of failed trilogies - Salvation, Genisys and Dark Fate.

The king of starting trilogies. Nobody can beat that. If you wanna explain at someone what is wrong at Hollywood, just point to this.

Maybe if this is as good as Bumblebee. It's a good sign that Bay's no longer involved, but I think people's opinions have soured too much on the franchise.

Can't understand why Paramount doesn't pursue a sequel.  It's such a feel-good movie!  The sequel could potentially double its box office.  But they're probably too greedy -- they think Transformers should be a Billion-dollar grosser.  Chris Pine has been trying to tell them that it's not what's needed for Trek, either, but oh well...

This is being described as the direct sequel to Bumblebee, so technically they are pursuing it.

You sure...?

I wouldn't have posted that if I didn't.

Bumblebee was set in the late 80s with this one taking place several years later in the 90s and following the ending where Bumblebee reuinted with Optimus and the robot designs are supposed to be the same as they were in Bumblebee.

Spoiler

It kind of feels like they're blowing their load on the character too soon, especially if this is set in the new continuity established by Bumblebee. Unicron is basically robot Thanos, and should be saved for later down the line. Then again, @ViewerAnon's wording here doesn't indicate if he's the actual, immediate antagonist of the movie, so it could be a post-credits tease for all we know.

Sir, nobody knows the difference between these Decepticons enough to be concerned about whether they introduced one villain too early in the series.

I imagine its another incredibly large robot hellbent on interplanetary domination like the previous 6 times they did this.
