FINDING DORY | 542.3 M overseas ● 1028.6 M worldwide

Recommended Posts

Dory underperformed in Mexico, with a lower gross in lc than Inside Out and lower admissions than Pets. Even Monster University earned more and sold more tickets! Similar to other markets like Italy, it opened great and then deflated. Add to the mix the painfully low ER, and voila, a lukewarm sub-$30M gross.

Still think it will reach $1B WW.

Overall 1B WW is awesome. The fact that it is domestic heavy in a way is better as ROI is better. So many good things like break animation OW record/beating Shrek 2 domestic and another 1B WW.

I dont think there is a need for any more movies in this universe despite the post credit scene setting it up for another one. May be with the auxillary characters  they can do a tv show.

A third movie would be too much, people don't ask for it.

people need to learn the difference between doing badly and disappointing. Did Dory do bad overseas? Of course not. But did it not really reach its potential? I say so

Right, "disappointment" is a relative term that has all to do with pre-release expectations within which context "profitability" becomes a secondary consideration.

Deadline - In her 15th weekend of overseas play, Disney/Pixar’s Dory had a whale of an opening in Germany. The $8.4M launch is the top industry bow of 2016. Play will continue strongly with tomorrow a public holiday — Disney strategically slotted Dory’s last bow into this German frame with which it’s had success in the past. Strong No. 1s were also seen in German-speaking Switzerland and Austria. In the former, a 1M Swiss franc bow is the biggest ever in the region.

In Italy, Finding Dory continued to lead the box office by a considerable margin in the 3rd weekend. To boot, in local currency (13.3M euros), Dory is now the No. 1 animated title of 2016 there.

The full international weekend in 17 markets was $13.6M which pushes the forgetful blue tang across the $500M mark internationally with $500.8M. Worldwide, Dory has spawned $985.2M making $1B a foregone conclusion.

Dory has now passed Despicable Me 2 ($971M) to become the 5th highest-grossing animated title of all time globally.
