He is the "minion" of Blue Sky.

Yes and no, I think Scrat is much funnier than the Minions who barely make me smile. But yes they're the main draw of these movies

In Mexico, IA5 opened about 5% lower in lc and 4% lower in audience than IA4. Still, 3rd highest 3-day OW of the year behind CW and BVS. It may end up in the 500-550M lc ($27.5 -$30M) range.

Why don't we have more numbers? It's the sequel of a movie that almost reached $1B WW...

For some movies we can even get OD numbers in many markets.

Now it feels like a non-event...

That seems to be a consistent trend this year, Alice 2 is also a sequel to a Billion dollar movie, a total non-event.

KFP 3 had lots of promises especially with the Chinese market, a total non-event. And then there's ID:Resurgence and now IA5

It feels like you can't take oversea markets for granted now, just when you think they'll do well, that's when they don't.....

At least Dory and Captain America are bucking this trend

Yep, thankfully for that bit of "predictability" to keep us sane :D

It's now a non-event because it has become a tired concept.

I'll never be tired of Scrat

But yeah, IA5 should be the last one.

Opening in 18 more markets, Ice Age: Collision Course rolled to an estimated $32.2m from its 25 markets for an early $57.7m.

Brazil led the way with a $4.5m debut for the biggest opening ever for the Ice Age franchise in the market, while the animated sequel recorded the biggest Fox opening weekends in Argentina ($3.7m), Central America ($2.2m) and Colombia ($2.2m).

Mexico and Germany provided strong holdovers to add $4.2m for $16.5m and $3.9m for $9.5m, respectively. Collision Course opens in 37 markets next weekend, including the UK, Russia, Spain, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Guys don't know if it's mentioned yet but the updated numbers for Australia are over 8m AUD after 2 weeks + previews. It's off about 30% - 40% from ice age 4 at the same point in AUD.

Ice Age 4 made 28m USD (I've converted here)

ice age 5 May be lucky to make 12m USD between the shoddy exchange rate and big drop off.

And it doesnt even face the life of pets (doesn't open till sept here)

sub 500m, hell I'm wondering if this will reach 300m at this point. (I think it will still reach 200m surely?)

Yeah, it's opening head to head with Bourne 5 in China, some says Star Trek Beyond will be in the same week too.

So don't don't expect any increase in China.

With a $31.1M second frame, the 5th film in the Fox/Blue Sky Studios franchise now has a $56.6M cume across 25 markets. Scrat notably chased his acorn into Brazilthis weekend for a $4.5M start on 1,159 screens giving the series its best debut ever there. It nevertheless was No. 2 behind Dory‘s sophomore swim in the market. There are currently No. 1 rankings in 16 overseas plays for IA5.

Manny, Diego, Sid and Buck rounded up the biggest Fox opening weekends ever inArgentina ($3.78M/394) — where IA5 is the No. 3 debut of all time behind Furious 7 and Civil War  Central America ($2.18M/288); and Colombia ($2.2M/558). Peru, Chile and Ecuador gave the studio its 2nd best start ever.

Holds were also strong in both Mexico ($4.2M from 2,419/No. 2) and Germany($2.75M from 1,472/No. 1). While Australia was soft last weekend at launch, the second session’s gross was up 33% for a total $6M after two frames. It is No. 6 in a crowded holiday frame that has been dominated by Dory.

Collision Course opens in 37 markets next weekend, including the UK, Russia, Spain, France, Belgium and Holland. Helmed by Mike Thurmeier, it hits China in a plum late August slot. North America bows July 22. As evidenced over the past few weekends, there is a lot of animated fare out there with studios staking out their regions in a staggered manner.
