PatrickvD
I think Japan could push it over. Would love for that to happen. This was an unexpectedly good film. So it would be deserved.
Infernus
65m from japan... Its not an easy target for any film. But this is the kind of film that can work really well there. I dont know how popular the original was but the 90's anime based on it (which was the most important reason for its stunning performance in India) was from here ('anime') so it must have been popular enough. So I'd say there is still a chance that the 1B might happen Edited July 10, 2016 by Infernus
Purple Minion
Should comfortably pass $940M WW before opening in Japan. From Mojo: Total Lifetime Grosses Domestic: $361,701,299 38.5% + Foreign: $578,060,862 61.5% = Worldwide: $939,762,161
newbie BO buff
Mowgli's final box office assault begins August 11 in Japan. Can somebody pretty please give an overview of what to expect? I believe it is now 941 million worldwide.

picores
Yeah, kind of sad. 1B sounds so good that when you fall just short...feels odd. Of course, 975m WW is damn good. Probably better than anyone thought for an April release. Edited August 12, 2016 by picores
MrFanaticGuy34
So far.....TJB is now at $947M WW. Yeah....it's probably harder now to get to the $1B-mark. But it could probably be the new movie to be closest to $1B....if it goes above Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's $974M WW.

Disney's giving it to Dory, not Mowgli I guess they want to maximize the chance of hitting another one-billioner, therefore having four titles and beating Universal's 2015 record.
