It seems like RO (and even the same WE 2016, where drops were much worse) isn't a good comparison here as that one fell hard every WE... 

Rogue 1 had much better competition in its second weekend on 2016. A local film that opened above it that weekend , 3 others with 20k+ admits and and another 3 with 10k+ admits. Avatar only had Puss in Boots with 20k+ and thats it

Due to various day or student discounts Regular 2D will average out around idk 7.3 Euro , normal 3D to  9.3 Euro. The "projection" screens i think are basicaly any special dolby atmos etc screens from Village (largest chain in greece by far) and they are around 10 Euros. Imax at ~12.5 Euros

 

So if we assume a distribution like OW but more 3d heavy ATP would be 8.5-8.8 over its run by now.

Opened last weekend to 72.072 admissions (biggest OW of the year) and rose +5% to 75.807 adm. this weekend for a running total of 206.936 admissions!!!

Already beaten Mario for #1 of the year in 10 days and heading to well over double its current total. 

400.000 admissions is a threshold for mega blockbusters here that only No Way Home (466.000) and Avatar 2 (425.000) have cleared post-pandemic. Barbie could theoreticaly beat both for biggest movie post-pandemic in Greece.

 

While the numbers are not record breaking by themselves compared to pre-pandemic numbers (Greece theatrical market is still very slow in its recovery compared to most places) it's simply insane that is doing these numbers at the peak of the summer season.

 

July 20 to August 20 is the worst period here to release a summer blockbuster because most people avoid traditional theatres and opt for open air summer theatres which are much fewer and have less screenings (only night screenings). Everything big that can't be released at the start of July at the latest (like MI7), gets bumped to late August when people start returning to traditional screens (Oppenheimer).

There were no reports for the first 2 weeks of August because even local distributor companies go on vacation so we get all the numbers after this weekend.

 

Barbie held very strong as expected despite the very low attendance this two weeks historically get every year and it is already at 392.401 admissions after a 14.484 adm. 5th weekend.

I don't really know since everyone here is reporting tickets not gross, but I don't think is that high. Avg. ticket in most theatres is between 7,5-8,5 euros and half of that on Wednesdays. For IMAX(mostly liemax) it's 10-11 euros but there are just a handfull of those screens. I would assume ATP wouldn't be more than 8,5 euros.

Dear friends, we finally got there. These are the numbers for the most recent weekend. George Clooney and Julia Roberts's 'Ticket to Paradise' is one of their most successful of the last decade. 'Minions 2' had a sizeable drop and is trailing its predecessor by a significant margin. Back in 2015, 'Minions' sold 38,423 admissions on its third weekend, with a 227,524-admission total. 'Minions 2' has a very similar total this weekend, but much lower weekend numbers, so I doubt it will manage to overtake its predecessor (290,513 admissions). The year's top film, 'Top Gun 2', is at 280K admissions and is also almost out of limits. However, I think that 'Minions 2' will more likely than not beat 'The Batman' (263K admissions). 'Where the Crawdads Sing' had a rather sharp drop, while the rest of the chart is abysmally uninteresting. Next weekend, Clooney & Roberts will most likely retain the weekend crown, since nothing of note will be released. 

 

Continuing from where I left off... I'll try to post a month's worth of weekends every day or every other day, so that we're back on track by mid-September...

Monthly summary: 'Minions: The Rise of Gru' had very strong legs and got very close to topping its predecessor. It beat 'Top Gun 2' (282.4K admissions), which was the biggest film of 2022 up to this point. The 300K-admission milestone is around the corner. 'Ticket to Paradise' crossed 100K admissions and horror-film 'Smile' scored a very impressive hat trick, with each weekend selling more tickets than the last. 'Avatar's' re-release didn't make many ripples, as expected.

 

Back to the present...

As for some more recent news, 'Oppenheimer' sold 110,143 admissions over the weekend, the biggest of 2023 and the third-biggest in the post-pandemic period following 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' (150.8K admissions) and 'Doctor Strange 2' (114.0K admissions). Truly impressive. More once my weekly reports catch up with the present...

Short summary: 'Black Adam' scored one of the worst ever openings for a DC film. On the other hand, 'Black Panther 2' opened higher than its predecessor's 4-day opening weekend (excluding previews), although it is still one of the low performers in the MCU. 'Minions 2' had phenomenally strong late legs, while 'Smile' had an overall staggering run for a horror film.

December 2022 summary: 'Minions: The Rise of Gru' became the biggest film of the 'Despicable' franchise, the biggest animated film for Illumination and the fifth-biggest animated film ever (since records became available), with 340,065 admissions. It would be safely keeping the title of the biggest movie of the year, if it weren't for 'Avatar: The Way of the Water'. Speaking of which, it has sold far fewer tickets than its predecessor. Through its third weekend, the first 'Avatar' film had sold 442,322 admissions. 'Black Panther 2' will be finishing roughly 15% lower than its predecessor. 'Puss in Boots 2' will be finishing nowhere near its predecessor's 231,102-admission total.

January 2023 summary: 'Avatar 2' had an impressive run with five consecutive weekends at #1, matching the record shared by the first 'Hangover' film, 'Joker' and Greek film 'Man of God'. 'Avatar 2' easily eclipsed 'Minions 2' as the biggest film of 2022, but is far short of the original 'Avatar', which sold north of 900K admissions. 'Minions 2' surpassed 'Finding Nemo's' original run (340,731 admissions) to become the fourth-biggest animated film ever. 'Puss in Boots 2' had a decent run on par with other DreamWorks Animation spin-offs/prequels/sequels ('Penguins of Madagascar's' 128K admissions, 'Kung Fu Panda 3's' 124K admissions). Finally, Darren Aronofsky's 'The Whale' attracted sizeable crowds curious to form their own opinion about the film's controversial themes.

February 2023 summary: 'Avatar 2' tapered off at around 420K admissions, less than half of its predecessor. 'Puss in Boots 2' managed to get close to 140K admissions, after spending 10 consecutive weekends in the Top 10. It remains miles away from its predecessor's 211K admissions, but on par with non-Shrek-related DreamWorks sequels. 'The Whale' crossed the 100K-admission milestone. 'Ant Man 3' fared far better than its predecessors, both which opened with 18-19K admissions. The 'Astérix et Obélix' movie is a far cry from its recent predecessors, all of which earned north of 130K admissions (and in some cases, many many more than that).

 

Back to the present...

'Oppenheimer' had an impressive sophomore hold, dropping only 32% to 75K admissions. With a 251K-admission total, reaching 400K admissions is a foregone conclusion, topping 'Barbie' (436K admissions) is more likely than not, crossing the half-million-admission milestone remains realistic, while an (admittedly optimistic) extrapolation based on this weekend's 32% drop would take it to 550K admissions.

March 2023 summary: It was a month of successes. 'Creed III' scored the biggest opening for the franchise, slightly ahead of 'Creed II' (30,216 admissions). It needs to beat the first sequel's 100,174 admissions to become the biggest film of the franchise. 'Ant Man 3' became the biggest film of the 'Ant Man' series, which is however one of the worst-performing sub-franchises of the MCU in Greece. 'Scream VI' also achieved the biggest opening of the franchise, up from last year's requel 'Scream', which opened with 20,697 admissions. It has also scored the biggest admission total for the franchise, beating 'Scream 3's' 72.4K admissions. Finally, 'John Wick 4' registered the biggest opening of the series, eclipsing the 31.8K-admission opening of 'John Wick 3'.

 

Back to the present...

'The Nun II' opened big (54.8K admissions) but failed to match its predecessor's opening (76.0K admissions). 'Oppenheimer' had a sizeable 44% drop to 41.6K admissions. If it continued to drop by 44% from now on, it would reach 420K admissions, which would not be enough to overtake 'Barbie' (448K admissions). It's hard to tell at this point, but the odds seem to be 50-50, since 'Barbie' is still at large selling admissions in the 4-digit range.

April 2023 summary: 'John Wick 4' nearly doubled the previous franchise best in terms of total admissions. 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' scored the second-best opening of the year, following 'John Wick 4' and is outpacing it in the long run. 'Dungeons & Dragons' was admittedly a disappointment. The extended editions of the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy did very well, with a per screen average that came close to 2,000 admissions. 'Minions 2' (345,761 admissions) beat 'Finding Nemo's' initial run (340,731 admissions) and is around the same level as 'Ice Age 2', which has an estimated total (my estimate) around 346,500 admissions. 'Finding Nemo' has sold 368,841 admissions when including the 3-D re-release. This puts 'Minions 2' squarely in the Top 5 biggest animated films ever. 'Avatar 2' wrapped up at 423,000 admissions, less than half of the original.

May 2023 summary: 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3' managed to match its predecessors' total admissions, which is all we can ask to be fair. 'Super Mario Bros.' got very close to the 200K-admission blockbuster milestone. 'Fast X' scored the biggest opening of the year to date. 'Fast X' rebounded significantly compared to 'F9' (17,177 admissions), which was released in June 2021, at the height of the pandemic, and was thus an utter failure. It is slightly higher than the eighth film (which had the bad luck of opening on Easter weekend in 2017) and on par with the fourth 'Fast & Furious' film (62,021 admissions). It will get close to the latter's admissions. As expected, 'The Little Mermaid' did quite badly compared to most other high-profile live-action Disney re-imaginings.
