well I can be called a Band fan only in terms of the Craig era so I liked the movie quite alright mostly because it has all these ties from all the movies prior

Even the boring opening song became listenable combined with the great opening credits (seriously when I saw Vesper I almost embarassingly squealed:P)

I didnt read reviews only some MI6 site threads so I know that critics bash it b/c it seems like a drawback to the early era so before the sceening I expected something Moore-esque at least but I didnt find it ridiculously funny as I do with Roger films (that I love personally) & I was actually disappointed! (well the rat scene WAS funny:rofl:)

To me its more or less what I expected from Dan & Mendes.  Great pleasant surprise was seeing them mention Quantum! Yay they didnt forget QoS!:excl: & we even got White! (good thing to be unspoiled I guess!)

On the negative side what is the 'L word' story between him & Lea's character......WTF! He loved Vesper & only her (lol yes shipper biass!!!)))) :rulez: Completely unnesesary. Came out of nowere. & Monica was completely underused.

The whole cast as expected was really good, ppl know my dislike for Lea but now Im ready to eat my words. The scene in the 'sekrit' room when she sees the photos I almost teared up.

The plot was on one hand was inteersting but yeah I must agree it should have been bit tighter (in which SF & CR totally succeeded)

AT the end of the day it felt like location hopping at times.

The cinematography & design pleased me (& I was the one mournning Deakins uninvolvement) esp the train fist fight & the opening Mexico (though at times the elicopter shots felt like green screen or smth )

Well I still scored it an A just because it referenced the other movies & I felt sentimental

I hope Dan won't reitre as Bond after this move. He's exceptional

P/S HAha I didnt watch Austin Powers so maybe thats why the movie was OK:sp2:

The third act is really bad. "This isn't over." I cringed at this line knowing that the film was about to drag on way too long. Little did I know they would also pull out the really tired plot point of making the protagonist choose between escaping himself or saving a girl. Have we not seen this plot point too many times over the years? Not to mention the completely unbelievable romance. She actually says "I love you" to a guy she just met. Cringed at that moment.

The first two acts are very good. I really enjoyed the Mexico prologue, car chase in Rome, and Austria scenes. Overall it is the weakest of the Craig movies, but still a lot better than most of the big budget crap Hollywood is pumping out lately.

Mess.
A complete waste of Léa Seydoux and Monica Bellucci.
I mean, they sold the Bond girls women as independent and they gave me the same "princess in danger" bullshit.
I'm not even gonna talk about the worst villain I've ever seen, so dumb.
Waltz with the same "acting" again, again and again. Let Hans Landa go.
I guess if you turn off your brain for 2 hours you can actually enjoy it...

Fuck this movie for not having the balls to actually have Bond kill Franz Khan Blofeld. It could have tied in nicely with the alcoholism 'theme'.

Absolutely not.   One of the major themes of this movie is that the 00 program was not just assassins killing people but having the judgement on when they had to kill people.

However... what a mess of a movie.

Can someone explain to be why the rebooted a villain from the original books?

Seydoux should have been a traitor in the end.

Bond girls either are one night stands, die, or work for the other side.

Now they'll have to kill her off in the next movie.

When he left her to go save the world at the end she made a phone call.  I assumed she was calling Blofeld to let them know how to find Bond and crew.  How else was Blofeld able to ambush Bond?  ( one of many plot issues )

I paid to see this in IMAX for the Star Wars trailer.

Star Wars trailer - A+

Bond movie - C

The other major theme of the movie was surveillance so much so that it literally was the bad guy of the movie.

Honestly it was mediocre.  The intro theme didn't feel like it belongs to a Bond movie.  The story was too long and dragged for no reason, should have cut about half an hour.  Acting was good but it just didn't feel epic.  The main boss wasn't feeling like some boss of a Bond movie.  And the other big guy was a side show to keep things interesting.  Just the way it concluded it was like goodbye to Craig's Bond.

Obviously a huge step down from Skyfall but it was always going to be difficult topping that, I suppose. This is a very entertaining, above average Bond adventure that would also serve as a fine closing chapter for the Daniel Craig iteration if this is really his last outing. B

I swear this in IMAX and omg it was so loud I almost had to leave. I've seen other movies in IMAX and they were never as loud as this film.

The movie was good at times, but other times I was bored. It really seemed to pick up the last act but there were a lot of plot holes there too. Overall I give it a B. Monica was so wasted.

Haven't been here in years...prob around the time BOM closed there forums and this was opened but as for Spectre LOVED it!

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand the criticisms many have with the script especially towards the end of the film but it was such an enjoyable film to watch that its a minor gripe in the end. I love the fact that Mendes took his time to tell the story and didn't cave to cut 15mins out of the film. Its a long movie but I didn't think it overstayed its welcome. Waltz played a pretty straight not so unique bond villain but I do buy the personal connection. It is a tough sell to just say "aha it was me James all along" but I thought Waltz brought a certain gravitas to the role in a somewhat creepy way that really works. He Could've been given a little more to chew on in terms of the script and his exact feelings of the nature of his relationship with Bond but he was great with what he had. Craig has never been better as bond and I feel that he has cemented himself as THE greatest James Bond to wear the tuxedo without question. The action scenes are some of the best looking in the whole bond canon and the humor works in the vast majority of spots in the film where its inserted. Definitely the funniest of the Craig bond films. The only major complaint that I would note is how we get to the end. I LOVE the very end of the film but the 20mins or so they spent in London before they reach the bridge scene are somewhat too cat/mouse for my liking. I could have loved it if the damsel in distress was a complete bluff on Waltz's part which would have given the scene on the bridge between Waltz and Craig that much more edge. The ending just lacked a certain intensity but unlike a lot of critics I certainly didn't think the ending fell flat. It should have been reconfigured is all. Oh and that helicopter take down......i'll let that one slide since it is a bond film.

THAT OPENING SEQUENCE was without a doubt the greatest in franchise history for my money. The opening scene was very tough to top (LOVE the opening shot) and although they never quite manage to top it the fight sequence on the train was totally unexpected in terms of quality. Love the touch of very little music in that sequence to give it that much more intensity. The relationship between Bond and Swann totally worked for me. She clearly didn't realize she loved and understood him until he was getting tortured which is why her not being as emotional in that scene totally works. I mean she did just hear her father commit suicide after all. My only wish was that after Bond gets tortured they share one more great intimate scene together (non-sexual) before the final act in London.

Overall it was a truly spectacular bond film that stands up alongside or just beneath Skyfall and Casino Royale and in my book probably in my top 6 or 7 bond films.

Directing/Editing/Tempo: A (Long film but I totally dig that over an 1hr 45min film, just cut out 2-3mins of people walking around as there's a little to much intro coverage to certain scenes)

Visual/Special/Sound Effects: A+

Music: A- (Amazing in so many scenes but Thomas Newman feels the need to insert music in non-action scenes where music is not needed)

Acting: A- (Craig gets an A+, everybody else A-)

Story/Script: B+ (Honestly love the foster brother tie-in but they didn't hit on the history between the two characters quite enough to make the torture scene so personal for Waltz's character, and eliminate Swann's Damsel in distress role in the London scenes, besides those two things its not a bad script at all)

Honorable Mention Notes: Dave Bautista freakin' rocks as Mr. Hinx! Totally steals every scene he is in. Cinematography is nearly as good as Mr. Roger Deakins work from Skyfall which is a feat in it of itself. And lastly the theme song actually wasn't that bad up against the STUNNING opening credit visuals. Best opening credit visual's of the series. That falsetto though......

Overall: A-

SPOILERS!!!!!!!

And as for the set up for Craig's potential 5th outing (And yes I hope he comes back), my take would be Waltz finds a way to kill bonds new love interest Swann in the teaser WITHOUT breaking out of prison, bond kills Walt's character at the end of the teaser. Bond is broken now more so than ever after losing 3 significant women in his life and is forced to come back and do the only thing he knows how to do. Somebody else can figure out the actual story after the teaser but the core of the movie is Moneypenny lifting Craig's bond up from his darkest most desperate hour into conquering whatever evil arises after the teaser and eventually bond proposes to Moneypenny at the end of the film as she has been his rock. So essentially a version of OHMSS but inverted with a dark beginning and bright ending. Boom. Kind of left out the middle 1hr 45m but it starts and ends well damnit haha!

So much here just feels paint by numbers and obvious. A few great elements in here (the opening sequence winking back to classic Bond fun, and Lea Seydoux), but it's all so muddled and uninteresting. Waltz plays the same character he always plays, Bond and Seydoux's relationship feels underdeveloped, and all the action/plot points feel ripped from other blockbusters. It's not a bad movie, but it's just pretty unimpressive for most of its run time.

I actually did like the Sam Smith tune though.

Anyone?

How did Bond get into that plane so quickly????

It didn't seem like a long length of time had passed before we could see him flying past the convoy. I was like "please don't let that be Bond flying the plane".  It seemed too unrealistic for him to find his way down the mountain, get to the runway (wherever that was) and then catch up to the bad guys.

I was hating on the Sam Smith tune a lot before release, but I was surprised at how much better it plays over the credits.  Average Bond tune IMO.

Uh, I guess because he is Bond in a big action movie?  Bond movies have never been known for airtight logic/plausibility, even the "more realistic" Craig ones.  Skyfall could be picked apart on this level but people don't do it, I'm assuming its because that movie didn't have a reveal/villain that triggered them.
