I know its been settled but Id like to give a few of my thoughts.

I dont think a film should be given more than 100%. That only generates more and more fake money to the competition, when I think it should be more realistic. But then the game wouldnt be so inclusive, cause only the first person whos watching the clock would get it. Maybe if we could sorta auction the investment itd be more interesting and a little bit more realistic. It wouldnt be so based on luck. There could be a 48 hours auction where the highest bidder would take the investment.

For example, BvS has a $200m budget and half of that ($100m) would be the initial bid, so 1% = $1m. Let's say that these would be the offers made in the 48 hour period:

saturn offered $1.2m/% and wants 20%
jupiter $2.5m/50%
mars $1.8m/100%
mercury $2.3m/30%
earth $2.2m/25%

we would give the percentage asked for the highest bidders, so jupiter would get 50% (paying $125m), mercury 30% ($69m) and earth 20% (not the 25% he asked, cause then it would sum up over 100%; for $44m). so the investments would sum 100% and $238m. in this case it would be higher than the original budget but it's a film that will give a large profit, so the players would take their chances. making the initial bid as half of the original budget would also open up a lot of more of investment options. currently there are only a few good options to invest. if more players join the game, it would be even harder to get an investment. *impossible, as a matter of fact.

so thered be more options to invest, thered be less groundbreakingDeadpoolalike films cause players will pay more for high grossing films therefore making their profits a little bit lower and they would not simply skyrocket players.

that is a complete change of strategy of the game... i welcome the thought though, and it is an option on the way to  go.  but  then u run the risk of as u note of 1 persons potentially stealing the show... It's a thought of consideration for next years game.  i'll keep it in mind when we start looking at 2017.  I think this  is  too much of a material change to bring into the 2016 game year at this point.

in saying all that, i should note that the game ran very successfully for over 6 years with pretty much the current rules (as they stand now) and this idea  while proposed  previously was never tried but considered back in 2006 and it was ultimately decided to go down the path of the current setup.  (though back then we had a hard  an fast rule of 200%  only for all films. but everyone also started with only 50m back then too... (maybe that is part of the issue , we started with too much money to  begin with ?)

I forgot to say that the 1/2 rule for acquisitions could remain. Now we have a 100% limit when 200% (or 300%), then it would be 50% of 100%. I think of this because having 200% only generates more money and things end up being too easy. And I agree that we started out with too much money.

Right!  Back onto the game now that all that is out of the way.....

Week 7 : Wrath doesn't need to rise now that he's touching himself on top .....

Not surprisingly, @Wrath held onto the top spot thanks to his investment in Deadpool.  In fact the top 5 were unchanged from last weekend thanks pretty to Deadpool.  @lucasbenica took out 2nd down over 50%.  @JJ-8 (me) held down third spot, @The Panda stayed in 4th and @Simionski rounded out the top 5.  Our biggest mover of the week was @BourneFan #1 who jumped 74% into 6th spot.  The Only new entry this weekend was @Exxdee who was welcomed into 12th spot.

At this point it's probably expected that Wrath will hold onto the spot for a 3rd weekend running thanks to Deadpool's massive run.

As always, sub forum is fully updated - Monthly and Bank Accounts.  I've also added the April Budgets in the sub forum.

Weekly Update : 29th February 2016 - Wrath is out of control as he continues his R rated run on top.....

Thanks to Deadpool, @Wrath has sat astride the weekend chart for 3 weeks running (same as Deadpool).  In fact the top 8 did not change from last week showing how little impact the new films to the box office impacted the game.  So Wrath made another 42m over the weekend.  His revenue has now ballooned to nearly 390m at such an early point in the game.  However I should note he hasn't really used his money to date (He already had invested in Zootopia prior to returns coming from Deadpool).  @lucasbenica, ever the bridesmaid (now 3 weeks running) has also accumulated a grand revenue total of 355m to date.   I ( @JJ-8 ) have continued to hold down 3rd also accumulating over 230m in revenue (3rd in the game currently).  @The Panda, who was the 4th investor in Deadpool and sits 4th again this weekend, lags a little further behind in the revenue stakes with 149m.  Rounding out the 5 was @Simionski who also had other strong investments from january which has kept him in the hunt with now over 190m in revenue.

So is this it for Wrath, will he lose his top spot.  In theory we might have a new winner given a large number of investments in Zootopia, the expected winner of the coming weekend. However, Wrath handily has the largest investment (70%) in Zootopia, meaning he will continue his reign over us for at least 1 more weekend.  All of our current top have a slice of Zootopia meaning all 3 are likely to remain at the top of the charts in the coming weekends.  At least until those monsters say hello in a few weekends time.

End of February (Month) : Wrath and lucasbenica dominate a lucrative month for some….

Did someone leave the Oven on ?  @Wrath and @lucasbenica certainly did not care as they banked over 300m each with Wrath topping the month with a whopping 362m for the month.  Lucasbenica ever the bridesmaid of the month, nipped at Wrath’s heals ever since Deadpool graced us with his presence, finally tallying a total of 318m for the month.  I ( @JJ-8 ) took down 3rd also thanks to Deadpool mostly with a 202m monthly total.  @The Panda slipped into 4th with over 150m. and @Simionski rounded out the top 5 as the first player not to invest in Deadpool with just over 101m.

Weekly Update (4th – 6th March) : Wrath 4-peats as the zoo takes over…..

For the fourth week running, @Wrath has again topped the chart with another 77m to the bank.  Without sounding a broken record, @lucasbenica continued his bridesmaid run of now 4 weeks with a  further 52.2m in the kitty.  Rounding out the top 3 also for the 4th week running, I ( @JJ-8) made a further 42.8m.  we finally welcomed @CJohn into the top 5 with in at 4th and just a whisker away from 3rd with 42m.  @WrathOfHan managed to round out the top 5 with nearly 39m.

It should be noted that while Wrath has continued to stay on top, he is doing by simply being in more theatres than anyone else.  This however is about to change once 10 Cloverfield Lane hits theatres as Wrath does not have an investment in said film.  If the film is able to break out somewhat, it is possible someone else could finally dislodge Wrath from the top spot.  Lucasbenica holds a 25% investment in that little monster movie but it’s CJohn who stands to gain the most from the release with a full 100% investment.  Only time will tell if it will be enough to topple the mighty Wrath……

oh and if anyone thinks that Wrath is running away with the game... *cough* @CJohn *cough* .... there are rules in place specifically to avoid the complete runaway....

more specifically the investment restrictions rule :-

Wrath has invested 1145% already

the rule kicks in @ 1500% meaning he won't be able to invest until 1 week later than everyone else once he passes 1500% ... and oh he will pass that mark.

(lucasbenica isn't far behind with 810% though he has a bigger leeway that wrath does...)

I feel like if this gets moved to the games forum, we will never get any new players.

Weekend Results 11th - 13th March 2016 :- Wrath scraps in a 5th win in a monster thriller with CJohn....

For the 5th Week in a row, Wrath has topped the game with another 52.8m.  This has been done on the back of Deadpool initially and now Zootopia with both films performing well at the box office.  It was a near thing though with Cjohn moving up into 2nd a mere 400k behind him with 52.4m.  If 10 Cloverfield Lane had managed just a little bit more, CJohn would have finally tipped Wrath from the top spot.  lucasbenica dipped a spot to third after 4 weeks in the bridesmaids spot never managing to quite tip Wrath from the top.  Like lucas, I sliped to 4th (down a spot also).  Finally WrathofHan was able to round out the top 5 again.

Depending on how Allegiant performs, Wrath could be in for another photo finish with both Jajang and lucasbenica in the hunt as will cjohn again be up there.  Here it the weekend chart :

Ok, I'm still not 100% happy around the Investment Restrictions Rule.  No one is currently affected by this as yet, and i think the following change while possibly changing the game slightly and how you could approach it, is a great idea, and will make the game a much more friendly game and essentially goes towards stopped someone investing in everything at once!  Heres looking at you @Wrath over 1200% investments to date already and climbing still ;)

I'd actually like to thank Wrath for giving me the idea on this one. or you can blame Wrath.. your choice

You might have noted, I have now renamed the "Active %" to "Active Wide %" now.  I have changed the calculation of this column to as follows :

1. Film is in Release

2. Film (your investment) is in Wide Release ~ as per BOM, > 600 theatres.

The number of theatres "your" investment is in, is calculated as "the total theatres a movie is in" x "% invested".  This is the figure that is used to see if your investment is in wide release.

The % column (Active %) in the weekend chart (and it's also on the bank accounts chart in the sub forum), will give you the total "Active Wide %" you have each week.

THIS WILL NOT INCLUDE ANY FILMS IN LIMITED RELEASE (I MAKE THIS VERY CLEAR NOW).

ok here is the old rule which i think as "Wrath" put it very clumsy.  I hope this will work better.

OLD RULE:

Investment Restrictions (applies as you invest more %)

  • Your ability to invest is restricted as you invest more in movies over the year. There are 2 different levels of restrictions. Each level is associated with a % of investments.
  • Investment Restrictions apply to both Selling/Purchasing and Investing.
  • The following lists the 2 levels (3 including the unrestricted level).
    • Unrestricted - as per normal rules
    • Level 1 Restrictions (> 1500%) - Cannot invest in any film until 3 weeks prior to release.
    • Level 2 Restrictions (> 3000%) - Cannot invest in any film until 1 week prior to release.

NEW RULE (Replaces the rule above - no one has reached the limits above)

Investment Restrictions

  • Your ability to invest is restricted as you invest more in movies over the year. This will be controlled by the total % of films in "Wide Release".
  • A film is consider to be in "Wide Release" when the investment is in > 600 theatres.
    • eg. you have invested 50% in a film which is in 3100 theatres.  For the game your investment is considered to be in 1550 theatres which is in "Wide Release".
    • 2nd eg. you have invested 10% in a film which is in 2500 theatres.  For the game your investment is considered to be in 250 theatres which is in "limited release" and as such is NOT in wide release for the game purposes even though the film itself is in wide release.
  • As in real life, a studio has limited resources to market films and as such is there is a restriction on the amount of films in "Wide Release" in the game.
    • A Studio / Player is allowed a maximum of 300% or the equivalent of 3 Wide Releases at any one time.  The Film MUST be released to count.
  • When a Studio / Player has passed this limit of 300%, that Studio / Player CANNOT invest in a film that is listed as a WIDE release on BOM (either the term WIDE or > 600 forecast theatres)
  • TO BE CLEAR :- you will continue to earn $ from films in limited release as always until the film closes.  This does not change.

I'm sure some of you are thinking hey, i can get around that, and yes you can by investing in smaller amount of % but this will mean more % for everyone in the long run ... well thats the theory anyway.

@Wrath as you are the only player will be most affected this immediately, @lucasbenica you have about 2 weeks before it hits you hard), @CJohn  your impact will disappear on friday anyway.  I propose the rule be effective from 12am this Friday.  I don't think anyone else will hit the mark yet.

if you have an objection to the rule, make it known now and we can discuss.  (I have highlighted the new rule in RED)

Let me see if i get this.

We can't exceed 300% of wide releases. By "wide release", we understand that it is a movie that is being played by more than 600 theatres. For instance, I got 25% Cloverfield and it is playing in 3391 theatres, but 25% of 3391 is 847 so it will count as 25%. I also got 100% The Boy, but it's currently being played by only 216 theatres, so it wont count and I'll remain 25%/300%. But I got Divergent, BvS, The Young Messiah and other stuff coming up really soon. That will exceed my limit for sure. So I won't be able to invest in any movie cause I already exceeded the 300% limit, and then Ill have to wait one by one to lower their number of theatres so they wont be counted as Wide Release to be able to invest on a new picture?

As u only 25% of 10cl as the example it will only need to drop below 2400 theatres overall.   And it will be no longer counted towards the rule.  You have the concept. Some of the lessor movies will drop quickly. Bigger movies will take longer of course.
