Same thing can certainly be said for superhero films: How many good-against-evil, end-of-the-world superhero films can one watch before they all start looking the same? But that has not stopped them from getting audiences interested (even when said films get awful reviews).

When a film connects with an audience, it does, period, no matter how many times the plot has been seen before.

Or just films in general. How many films are like others? With the same tropes and character archetypes. It's a revolving cycle of ideas.

Of course, complaining about another casino heist movie after the last notable casino heist movie was a decade ago...

$70m with that kind of cast? Are they getting filming equipment from RadioShack, and resorting to child labor?

@Baumer loves Doryalready explained it: Bullock is the only one who has the box office clout to command a high salary. None of the other actresses in the cast have a proven record of box office hits based on their name on a marquee.

Interesting.  The 2001 version (wow 15 years ago...) had an $85m budget.  Are they filming this one in Atlantic City instead of Vegas? :P

Well Atlantic City is available. And they won't even have to close off sections of the casinos to do the filming because they're all empty anyways!

That's the stated budget.  Keep in mind that WB''s Man From Uncle started at $90m with Tom Cruise, when they lost him they knocked it down to $60m and by the end of filming and re-shoots it was back up to $85-90m.  Of course they should have kept it at $60m or less.  But then they didn't have Bullock.

The most important distinction between the two films is the size of each project's budget. Sources say Warners will make the Ocean's reboot, which is currently titled Ocean's Ocho, for around $70 million, about $80 million less than Ghostbusters' reported budget of $150 million.

Also WB isn't actually stupid enough to let Gary Ross call all the complainers sexist, or let Bullock call the complainers 45 year old nerds that live in their parents basements.

More like $20m for Bullock with % points on the back end.  But yes she's by far the highest paid and the others all together won't equal her salary.

There's no chance she's getting 20 mill for this.

A lot of that was chalked up to the immense backlash that developed against her throughout the entire awards season leading up to her win due to her "phony" attitude ("It came true!"). Some people even thought that JLaw's fall when she won was Hathaway putting a curse on her for something like that not happening during her speech.

Also she was in Alice in Wonderland before Interstellar.

Alice in...wtf are u talking about? She won the oscar for Les Mis in 2012....a full two years after Alice.

Your post said that Interstellar was the first big-budget movie she had participated in. I was simply correcting you there. ;)

Ocean's 11 (2001) cost $85m (maybe $120m-ish in today's dollar). Yes, it had big stars, but none of them was proven BO draws maybe except for Brad Pitt. Baumer's explanation makes sense, but on the other hand, $70m still sounds quite low

Shooting a quality movie for 25-40m is very doable, especially if you're not taking cast rates into account. Stuff like UNCLE would tend to be more expensive since it was a highly stylized period piece.

Bullock made $75m for Gravity with salary and % points.  McCarthy, JLaw and Scarlet Johansson who just got $14m, $20m and $17.5m for their latest movies.  This movie needs her more than she needs it.  Her name is what will get it B.O. and probably what got it Greenlighted.

All of that is irrelevant to what the salaries will be for this film.
