And is there a particular reason why we're combining OS and DOM? We tend to separate them for everything else on this board. Otherwise we would always just be referring to WW when we talked movie grosses. Clearly that's not the case.

I am pretty sure you know it, but it is possible you forgot the international area / sub-forum?

If a movie is beg enough there seem to be the possibility to open there a second thread and as OS details often get released via ww details....

Only a thought.

Spectre has taken the franchise to lows domestically that all of the 1990's and 21st century films worked hard to stay away from. Somebody tell me how something didn't go wrong?

I can tell you a few things that didn't go wrong. $100m already in the UK, with a population that's a fifth of USA. The biggest ever Saturday in Germany. Mexico opening doubled Skyfall. Perhaps $800m worldwide. Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Over 6 in 10 critics gave it the thumbs up.

I guess this is what a "typical James Bond movie should" do in the US.

Seems so.  Skyfall was the exception, the peak.  This is back to norm.

International though...still a through the roof phenomenon.

Is Spectre set to beat Skyfall in the UK?

Skyfall hit $161 mil and Spectre is at $100. It did $63 mil its first week and $37, so extrapolate from there. I'd assume the event nature of the film in the UK and comparatively smaller market means it's frontloaded. But it should be close at least. Per capita those are damned impressive numbers.

Hmm as you all are aware / not forgetting.... about previews not getting added in all countries to the OW results?

You'll see different placings for Spectre and Skyfall out of this

Example Germany:

Start date for movies is Thursdays, with Wednesday evening = does not count for the OWs since 2010 (important to know if comparing titles of a longer running series like Bond)

~ 'official' OW = €16.636.145 for Skyfall  means it is  18.502.953 incl. previews
~ 'official' OW = 16.590.492 for Spectre  means it is  18.614.747 incl. previews

Now add the difference in exchange rates and the results will look like Spectre did (a bit) worse than Skyfall... even if the difference is only slight with this example

For the OS newbes:

Check at which day a movie starts in a country, pre-view included or not

And don't forget local movies and/or movies not getting released at the same date, like e.g. France got just this weekend The Martian for the 1st time on place one, not bcs it just opened (it's its 3rd weekend), but bcs a local movie was too big earlier on.

And how strong the competition in complete was, same example France:

this weekend the top 10 made 1.563.497 admissions, during THe Martian's debut weekend the top 10 movies sold 3.933.843 tickets....
