Attaway, Boston. ;)

I would say that I'm a little surprised that Spotlight didn't take the top prize, but then, the wounds of the scandal still aren't completely healed nearly 14 years later.

This is BOFCA, who are the junior pups.

Boston Society of Film Critics is the main group and they announce tomorrow I believe.

BOFCA- since 2012

So yeah, junior. And do note that I have been pushing Stalloscar in the Creed thread before the forum caught on to the term.

Nominees for DC Film Critics. Not for nothing, but DC film critics are probably the most accurate by far of the early precusors. DC usually gets at least 4/5 Best Pic noms, which is a good indication for either Max or Sicario, obviously. Sure, it's just one metric, but I do think both have a shot, actually. Max seems likely, at this point, but don't underestimate Sicario, which has shown up here and NBR. Like Jake Gittes mentioned in another topic, Sicario is the sort of movie that can get a ton of partisan number one support. It's about an important topic, showy performances, rising star director, and solid box office. With a good push, it can do some damage.

Just don't get the Mad Max love. It's incredible overrated garbage. Shouldn't be close to winning any of these categories.

You made a couple mistakes in that post, but I corrected them for you. :D I can't believe Mad Max Might actually have a shot, this is amazing!

Boston Winners. They went for Spotlight, which isn't remotely stunning considering this is a bunch of Globe journalists. Interesting to see Dano at Lead. Mark just won at NY Online and was runner up in LA- he's rapidly becoming the favorite, though Stallone is doing great, too. Stewart starting to round into shape for a nom.

PICTURE: Spotlight

FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM:

DIRECTOR: Todd Haynes – Carol (Runner-up: Tom McCarthy – Spotlight)

LEAD ACTOR: Leonardo DiCaprio – The Revenant and Paul Dano – Love and Mercy (tie)

LEAD ACTRESS: Charlotte Rampling – 45 Years

SUPPORTING ACTOR: Mark Rylance – Bridge of Spies

SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Kristen Stewart – Clouds of Sils Maria

ENSEMBLE: Spotlight

SCREENPLAY: Spotlight

DOCUMENTARY: Amy (Runner-up: The Look of Silence)

ANIMATED FILM: Anomalisa and Inside Out (tie)

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Carol (Runner-up: The Revenant)

BEST EDITING: Mad Max: Fury Road

BEST USE OF MUSIC: Love and Mercy

After seeing Bridge of Spies I don't believe there's any way Rylance wins the Oscar. Even if we don't count Stallone, he's just way too subtle and restrained and doesn't have that much screentime even by "supporting" standards.

If Stewart keeps taking critics' awards, yeah, IFC should probably wake up and start doing some campaigning, if they aren't doing it already.

I really hope the rest of the critic groups make Kristen Stewart their cause to get her a nomination similar to Cotillard. Her performance is amazing.

Also I hope all the love Mad Max is getting is gonna boost Furiosa to a nomination.

I don't really follow awards, oscars etc. so can someone explain something to me.

Who chooses what role an actor is going to be eligible for? (as in lead actor vs. supporting actor)

Because Rooney Mara keeps getting nominated for Supporting Actress in CAROL even though she is the protagonist in the film, the main character. And it's confusing.
