i think helen mirren getting nominated for a movie with crappy reviews from april and sarah silverman getting nominated for some random sundance indie nobody actually watched proves that in the industry no1curr about charlize theron and you guys are silly, like I was saying earlier.

Mirren is is a result of Weinstein-ing.   Silverman I have no explanation for.

Surprised also that Fassbender didn't make it into actor. Possible vote split between his performances in Steve Jobs and Macbeth?

But yeah, I'm starting to think that this may finally be Leo's year.

Fassbended DID get nominated. It was Damon who got left off.

I've been reading that people are only getting the creed screeners this week. Just assuming awards bodies are lazy motherfuckers that wait for movies to get sent their way instead of going out and buying a ticket, so stallone might not be out of it.

GOTG got nominated at WGA last year without a campaign (it was already out on home media by then but still).

Here's a key statistic: ever since the awards started, only one BP winner missed a nomination (Braveheart) and it was the first year. Spotlight's getting closer and closer to being locked for BP IMO.

Interesting, and prior to this, nobody was really predicting any of those other movies besides Spotlight except me (and a few others) with the Big Short.

So is the race The Big Short vs Spotlight?

I'm waiting for PGA and DGA before deciding on The Big Short, right now I think Spotlight wins with Hateful Eight in second.

Keep in mind that a lot of TV people vote for SAGs and Bryan Cranston is TV peoples Daniel Day Lewis after Breaking Bad.

Good point, I'm betting Cranston and Depp miss the nominations, Redmayne is a maybe, and DiCaprio and Fassbender are safe.

Near locks

1.DiCaprio

2.Fassbender

Competing for the Next Three Spots

3.Redmayne

4.Carell

5.Damon

6.Depp

7.Jordan

8.Cranston

9.Smith

As for Picture,

Spotlight is in, but itd be extremely unprecedented for it to be the only ensemble nominee to get a nom.

The Big Short is the most likely second nominee.

Beasts of No Nation may be able to build up hype and get in the race.

I can't see SOC or Trumbo happening.  My guess is the Trumbo nod is because of TV actors.

Critical reception isn't that strong for a win.

Well, I Think industry reception is better than critical reception. Besides it isn't like the Academy never award Beautiful Mind or Crash or movies of a similar level of reviews. I think The Big Short plays well to the industry and Spotlight might be too serious a movie for them to deal???? I dunno. I just have a gut feeling about Big Short TBH.

Important to note that Hateful Eight is this year's Django/Wolf/Selma, so absolutely no one from SAG saw it. Any nom for Leigh, and even SLJ/Goggins/Ensemble, are still on the table.

Yes. But from what I've heard, Weinstein screened the shit out of it to the nominating committee? There were like screenings left right and centre and I think he actually flew the stars from one coast to the other to do like 2 Q&As and panels the same day? He's pushing this hard.

And also it is worth noting that Hateful Eight might not be and probably isn't even Harvey's top horse. He has Carol to push as well and frankly that's more academy friendly material and with like the OMG LESBIANS things that is more like the cause celebre of the day anyways.

So Trumbo has a big day? It's great to see a movie about Hollywood getting rewarded for a change.

LOL ya. I have a pretty good feeling about Trumbo now. The SAG nominations leader hasn't missed BP for a long while now.
