scoring fewer doubles and triples.

that seems partially not thought through IMHO

E.g. SW 7 pushed probably other movies up a bit too via sell-outs, plus, as the cinema owner association says, more people seeing a trailer in a cinema, bigger impact, more business during the high numbers plus.. I forgot ... lets say 1-3 weeks?

And if a certain ammount of per year BO reached:

percentage, doesn't mean a smaller percentage for the other movies means less money (it can, but it isn't a 'must')

plus they didn't have all around the year those blockbusters in the cinema, maybe at least some of the movies were bad, boring, too many parts, had bad advertising.... or...

too many at once

Like in decades, when a lot more tickets per year were the normal, they only released ~ 150 movies a year, than for quite some time around 450+ movies per year... and since 2006 for the first time 600+ movies per year.... yep, only the fault of the big budget movies (I know I know... I ignored some details)

Here's a controversal statement, no Star Wars is amazing. At best, they are fun adventure movies, no more, no less.

Okay, in hindsight, "fun adventure movies" is selling them a bit short. That's Indiana Jones. Star Wars has a little bit more depth.

Im very close to ranking TFA above ESB now. I think its a perfect film.

I had already reached that point after my 4th viewing.

However.... I'll have to rewatch everything in about 6 months and re-evaluate.

Right after watching it, I tought so too, but I have this thing to keep thinking about movies after watching them, and the more I think "holy crap, that movie was awesome" the more it rises in my personal ranking.

So ESB is so awesome, I think it's more awesome everytime I think about it. TFA is a close second though.

Fun fact: There will be blood will probably end up becoming my favorite film ever as I keep thinking about it's awesomeness.

Everyone has different opinions on favorite Star Wars or other movies, depends greatly on when, where with who, age etc you first saw it.

My first movie ever in my life and in a theater was Star Wars, I was amazed, it was almost like a life changing event.

So for me Star Wars A New Hope is my favorite movie of any movie, nothing could possibly come close.  Empire may be a better movie, but the memories and the initial amazement that flood my mind every time I see A New Hope is never going away.

on flip side I was in a theater watching aliens when my aunt died, I had just talk to her on the phone, said I'll call you when I get back...and that movie I just can't watch anymore, too many bad memories.... So for me how and when you saw a movie plays a HUGE part in what you like, so it's highly individual.

Well were finally getting a good winter storm tonight. 15 cm of snow and freezing rain in most of SW ontario. No idea what that does to the box office.
