Daddy's Home's breakout (of this scale) is really surprising and a movie making 50m on its second friday is very exciting too but the most surprising, incredible performance of the weekend, something I really can't wrap my head around, is Hateful 8. The more I think about it the more impressive it keeps getting. TBH, I didn't really ever pay much attention to how limited releases play out and things like what PTA is impressive for what theaters before I had to go into it due to the winter game. But now that I do have an idea of these things this number for hateful 8 really blows my mind. As others have already pointed out -

I can't speak for anywhere else but cinemas were closed in the UK yesterday. I'd imagine it would be the same throughout much of Europe and Australia (where most of the big overseas bucks are coming from).

 

Boxing day (26th) will more than make up for it.

Depending on the country:

e.g. via partially or complete closed down cinemas due to public holiday. Btw, here the stores open earliest Monday, limited openings for e.g. public swimming pools, libraries... too (public somethings usually open on sundays of holidays)

 

here are also a lot of people on vacation = neughbours speak mostly another language = no cinema visit. Or go skiing = unusual to combine that with a cinema, if there is even a cinema in the mountains.

Expected, as in quite a few countries it wasn't up at all or after 3 PM. Saturday and Sunday will be massive, it's hitting 1B WW today.

It's going to be around 600M OS and after NY weekend, around 800-850M and add in China, 1.2B OS is a good target.
