Man, THE BIG SHORT is really good. At least, the 80-90% of it I saw before Tele Jr decided to wake up last night.

First the dogs, and now your kid? The Universe has definitely decided you don't deserve to sleep

He looked at Marvel and said "Yeah sure, this is a good place".

Pixar.

I think both Pixar and Marvel are good examples actually. Sure you might not be a Marvel fanboy but they have a good track record at making good mass appeal movies, building a brand, and doing right by their characters. They also have kept some level of autonomy. He probably wanted LucasArts to get the same treatment as Marvel.

Why did FF7 do that well in China? Is $1.4bn OS possible if TFA explodes like that?

I'm guessing the appreciation and fascination with sports cars ingrained in their culture and also because of the over the top action sequences. It would also explain why the Transformers franchise is so strong there.

Only one reason Paul walker..... People flocked theatres just to see him one last time... So ff7 success is not because of cars or brand name..

Historic. Legendary run. Story for the ages...and grandkids.

You could print it out or save, add small signs for the days... add 2 days for sunday, add a point for e.g. $550m (half height is $500m...) and you'll see how it look like after the weekend

It's going to be around 600M OS and after NY weekend, around 800-850M and add in China, 1.2B OS is a good target.

I've read all between $30m (no typo, based on Taiwan's number seemingly) and over $400m as China prediction.

The Good Olive thinks $150m

Any prediction on saturday collections OS?

I see you are from the UK.

USA = other time zone, they need at least 13:00 o'clock details for the early matinees as a very very early starting point. From both coasts. And someone willing to do the work during the hollidays- And someone either posting those directly of finding those and posting them....

Since TFA is not well known outside of USA and UK, a conservative prediction should be around 850m.....if it does that then it would be amazing.

??? How do you get that idea? It's not that well known in some regions, but it's record breaking in several non-English speaking countries too.

One problem why you might not see it on US$ charts = exchange rates changes.. to the worse.

If it have an amazing box-office in China, sure. If not, difficult, cause the exchange rates are killing it vs avatar.

see above, our China specialists think $150m and the other I remember the ammont is a bit more optimistic and thinks ~ $200m at best. But there are also people who know think way deeper.

Disney seems to do exceptional advertising there, if or how much that will help we will see in January. But don't forget, several local big budgets get released around that date too.

Oh, I'm a big Michael Lewis fan. I read anything he writes. Loved the book.

I hate that the few people that didn't like SW are bitching at it because it's similar to the originals, whereas in the prequels people were bitching like hell because those went away from the originals and had WAY too much exposition. Now this is closer to the originals and has less exposition (because remember......there are 2 more films) and people are bitching that it's too close. I'm sitting here thinking: WHAT DO YOU WANT????

I'm super excited for that one, right up my alley as an Econ major. And I took a class that more or less morphed into the downfall of the stock market in 2008 so we should be speaking the same language.

Same (Econ/Finance), I'm pretty excited.

 $1,897M.669,758M:Countdown to $2,787,965,087 (Avatar) All-time WW Crown

Anther stellar day at the BO for SW7, it made 49.4M domestic for cume of 440.4M and another 26M+ OS. It shattered a few more domestic records on Friday including Christmas day record by over 100%, non-OD Friday record, best 2nd Friday and fastest to 400M in 8 days. It also increased the buffer to Avatar+32%($1B+) which has ballooned to 229M now and that buffer should be close to 270M by Sunday. Unless something crazy happens after the holidays, 1B+ is very likely for domestic. With 49.4M Friday, SW7 should have 160-165M 2nd weekend which is anther record it completely obliterated by 50%+. For OS and WW, I'll give a full update tomorrow. I could go on and on, this run has been mind-blowing and make sure people, enjoy it. We may never see a run like this ever in our lifetime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That number for Daddy's Home is probably the most astonished I've been by a box office number in years. That's fucking astounding. It might do 50 million, depending on whether it performs more like a family film. Insanity.

Also, that's a good number for Point Break, honestly. 12 million is fine considering the massive amounts of competition, especially directly from Star Wars. It'll probably be able to leg to 30+ cuz of the holidays. Honestly, had this released on a random weekend in March, do we honestly think it would have done any better than 12/30? So the idea being bandied that releasing it in the holidays instead of dumping it on some empty February weekend hurt the movie doesn't track with me?

Also, H8ful was paccckkked yesterday when I saw it. It's gonna keep doing gangbusters- crowd ate it up.

yeah also the tagline "This  christmas choose you daddy" is very good :)
