if it helps, i feel like seeing ava as a villain in ex machina is a pretty gigantic misreading of that movie.

Yeah I mean she kind of represents hope, a rejection of the creepy existence the two male characters force on her. I guess the villain thing comes from how she treats Gleeson but it felt like the whole point of the movie was that Gleeson's 'nice guy' expecting partnership from her isn't that far removed from Isaac's character's worldview

Eh, Gleeson is the protagonist and Ava is secretly the "antagonist." Maybe not a full-on villain, but she does display some ruthless and amoral qualities at the end.

Eh, she's just as ruthless and selfish in her manipulation, using and discarding of Kyoko as she is of Gleason without any fight against the patriarchy justification.

Well, I woke up this morning and it seems things are working again, so I suppose it's cool as is with today's deadline. I was just worried it might have been an extended problem.

Okay, awesome! Personally, my deadline will be when I wake up in the morning, so nominees will be ready to go on Friday!

BOFFY time is the best time! My ballot is in spoilers, just in case anyone gives a shit. I missed Room, Carol, Beasts of No Nation, and Phoenix, but hit mostly everything else. I had some fun with the down ballot categories. Also shouts to Coolio for being the first dude I think I've ever double nommed in the two poster categories. You da real MVP.
