Edit: just to comment that I have always asumed that €6m in Spain is similar to $100m in USA. Looking at each country unadjusted lists I see there are 56 films over $300m in USA and 58 films over €18m in Spain, pretty similar amounts.

Following that pattern we could conclude that, for instance, Star Wars 7 has made in Spain an amount comparable to about $550m in USA.

Is yet TFA ahead of Titanic in admissions in UK?

And is it n.2 all time in Australia?

Thanks!!

TFA ended up #2 in AUD, and USD (all time) to only Avatar which remains as the only film to cross 100m in Australia.

TFA also ended in #8 in Admissions (Estimated)

of course TFA did take smash the OW Record though .... :P

Are there any admission figures for Australia? I wonder whether Avatar actually sold more tickets than Titanic (probably not but you never know).

Thanks, it did come closer to beating Titanic here than in other countries. But are you sure about that GWTW estimate? That would be like a movie selling 500m tickets in the US.

Don't forget though, that Gone with the Wind earnt it's takings over many, many, many years... to be honest you need only look at the number of admissions back when GWTW was released....

(straight from the Screen Australia Website - Link )

Total Admissions by Year:

(I can't find detail on #'s between 1932 and 1942)

1943 = 102m

1944 = 147m

1945 = 151m (Only year higher was 1928 but i'm not entirely convinced of that number either due to the way it was calculated)

1946 = 143m

1947 to 1953 ~ averages between 125m and 140m

i'm sure you get the picture and given Gone with the Wind would have been dominant film through many of those years it suddenly becomes more realistic that the 38m or so admissions sold for GWTW is real.  (FYI Australia population over the same period rose from 7.2m to 8.8m by 1953.  a lot of people were making multiple visits back then)

I should note that proper records were not kept before 1976 so some of these #'s were estimated too.  To give you an idea how far things fell away, by 1976 we had dropped to under 30m admissions in a year.  the highest point since then is 2001 / 2002 with around 92.5m (2010 came close with 92m Admissions)  I'm not sure how 2015 did but i am pretty sure it is still sub 90m Admission at this point (in $ it will be a record taking 2010's previous high).

Also FYI - Star Wars The Force Awakens has moved further up the all time Admissions chart to 8th which is where it will end up as I don't beleive it will have the legs to top 6m Admissions at this point (which should be around 91m AUD).

I posted the above a page back about that figure.  and those are the figures taken from the official Screen Australia website.  As far as I understand it, it's correct and crazy as it seems.  but as i noted, if you consider the fact Australian admissions back in 40's and 50's was hovering well above 100m admissions a year (something we are yet to return to since the theatre heydays).  Then consider that GWTW was released in 1938 and led many of the years noted... 38m admissions suddenly doesn't seem so massive.  Once again much of this is estimated from various data sources over that time.
