Final tally could be 300m+. Fantastic I wouldn't expect anything substancial from China. It's gonna be edited for violence and the movie isn't exactly action packed. Japan is a wildcard as always. It can do just as easily 5m or 10m or 15m, no one knows how this market gonna behave. Whatever it makes in these last 2 regions is gonna be gravy anyway. It has grossed 430m after a 16m WW weekend, it will make it to 450m just from existing markets. A huge win for FOX nevertheless, "optimistic" industry expectations were in the 100m DOM/200m WW territory before the release.
alestevens
Wait, this grossed $430M? I clearly haven't been paying much attention to it's performance (Zootopia and Deadpool were catching all of my attention) but i didn't expect it to be anywhere near that. That's huge! IMAX screenings in China brought in $2.3 million from 278 screens. France continues to be the busiest hold-over market, finishing its fourth weekend with a $1.7 million haul from 609 screens and raising its market total to $23.1 million. The Revenant has grossed $302 million overseas and $483.1 million worldwide. Source: BoxOffice.com 80M more from China is possible? Maybe 400M OS
Joel M
I was totally wrong about China. But it's really an outlier there. R rated and/or awards movies usually don't get released there at all. @PanaMovie I think 80m more in China seems too much. Maybe half of that which still gets the movie easily past 520m WW

Purple Minion
Deadline An excellent opening in Japan boosted the Leonardo DiCaprio Oscar winner’s weekend to $2.3M internationally. That’s on 661 screens in eight markets. The Japan start of $2.1M is bigger than DiCaprio’s Wolf Of Wall Street by 9% and 2.8 times over his Django Unchained. The international cume is now $339.4M.
