Depends on word of mouth. Revenant had a fantastic opening weekend, but if a large majority of this weekend's audience tell their friends that it was too long, too violent, too boring etc (and the cinemascore wasn't great, so that 's a possibility), it's 2nd weekend holds might not be enough to overtake TFA. Ride Along should beat TFA though.

Its just won the 3 most important awards at Golden Globes. A lot of people, even if they didn't like it that much, will start thinking maybe they missed something or will be trying to look smart/cultured infront of their friends, so WOM is not going to hurt it, atleast not by its second weekend already. The Oscar nominations it will receive may help too.

TFA won't fall below 25m next weekend. Here are the MLK weekend holds for the other top December OWs:

Avatar: -15%

Return of the King: -28%

The Two Towers: -30%

An Unexpected Journey: -33%

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe: -36%

I Am Legend: -40%

Sherlock Holmes: -40%

The Desolation of Smaug: -54%

I see no reason it wouldn't drop 40% or less like all the others except Smaug, which never had great WOM. I think it will fall around 30%.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS took in $42.35M this weekend and has grossed $812.73M to date domestically.

It went up!  Nice.

The decision to give into Wrathette #1's whining and agree to buy lightsabers and lightsaber training feels more validated with this hold.

53% drop in all.

Not that bad. Definitely salvageable. A lot will depend on MLK week-end, especially the $1B dream.

ROTK dropped 49.4% on its 4th week-end, so TFA is not that far behind in terms of ROTK legs. And ROTK didn't have the weekly drops that TFA has (TFA has a 8% buffer on ROTK weekly drops last week)

And ROTK legs = $1B so... the dream. It's still alive!
