Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark | August 9 2019 | Guillermo Del Toro not directing, John August scripting

Recommended Posts

Definently Old School, Classic horror.

Not surprising, since most of the stories in the book are basically modern retellings of classic ghost stories in folklore. The author was a professior of folklore.

Almost certain to get a PG rating given the book is a YA classic;but that is fine, As a producer, Del Toro will guarantee it will be scary no matter what the rating.

This movie seems odd. It feels like it's a scary movie for a significantly younger audience, yet it seems pretty genuinely creepy no matter what age you are. I'm actually curious to check it out.

The book basicslly is a retelling of a lot of the classic verbal ghost stories..the kind that get told around a campfire at summer camp.

The book is basically aimed a YA audiences, so PG 13 is the hardest they can go.

Oh,yes. I enjoyed the book, and interested how Del Toro is going to handle this.

The book is worth reading, btw. Half of it are the Classic Oral Tradition Ghost Stories, the other half are essays about the stories. Yes, the author was an expert on folklore.

Sounds intriguing. I'll definitely check it out. Thanks!

This is a tough one. With the material, it should be centered at the Goosebumps-Crowd, but from the trailers, it's very dark and somehow misses the target.

Also, seems to be opening in only 2400 theaters. Seems not very confident and to be honest, it's a stupid move to open two adaptations centered at kids/younger teens the same weekend, when July was desertet.

Everyone wanted to steer clear of The Lion King.

This seems like it would have done well in October. There's the Zombieland sequel in October but nothing else screams Halloween.
