I'm half-expecting Silence to be released any moment without announcement like Beyoncé or something. Marty be like "bitch I'm back by popular demand."

Marty's gonna pull a Beyoncé and release it next week. You know it.

I was hoping Marty would open it without warning like Beyoncé. Y'all doubters corny with this delaying mess.

This is a good bit.

Btw I saw the trailer for Fences before Magnificent Seven this weekend (who knows when they'll release it online) and it looks as you imagine: a really good movie with sensational performances from Denzel and Viola whose Oscar clips were probably in the trailer. We'll have to see how the movie itself shapes up though to see if it'll be an actual contender or just an acting play, especially with Paramount also having Silence and Arrival on their hands.

Jackie might be an 8th candidate.

just realized that no Best Picture winner in the last 10 years had not been screened any time later than early October. Is this a sign that La La Land is in a good place?

06 The Departed (Oct. 6 release, opened first on Sep 26th at Ziegfeld Theatre)

07 No Country for Old Men (Cannes, May)

08 Slumdog Millionaire* (Telluride, August)

09 The Hurt Locker (Venice, September)

10 The King's Speech* (Telluride, September)

11 The Artist (Cannes, May)

12 Argo (Telluride, August)

13 Twelve Years a Slave* (Telluride, August)

14 Birdman (Venice, August)

15 Spotlight (Venice, September)

* Toronto People's Choice Winner

La La Land is the only film that is screened at this point among the frontrunners and it also won the Toronto people's choice award. just sayin'.

if LLL is this year's Spotlight, Silence would be the Revenant and Billy Lynn, the Big Short. Fences is a question mark, think it could go either way, either a big best picture frontrunner or more like an acting category showcase.
