Gramercy and Millenium Media makes them on a reasonable budget then sells the OS rights to recoup the costs and if it does well in the US, then it's just gravy

Yeah, but a third film would probably do less then 50m domestically at this point. I guess it's not entirely a loss, but it is something only a new studio would seem to do.
