Best Supporting Actress-2016 predictions!

This is shaping up to be the most boring category of the year at the moment.

I'm pretty sure that's Best Actor. There's nothing beyond Affleck/Garfield/Gosling/Mortensen/Washington that could break through (sorry @WrathOfHan, but a nuclear bomb dropping is more likely than Chris Pine sneaking in).

Michelle Williams was really good but she was not even in Manchester by the Sea that much.  Nicole Kidman was not in Lion that much and she was good, but I am not sure she will get in...   I think it would be fair to put Viola Davis in the supporting actress category.  I have seen all 3 of these movies so far.  Not sure yet what to make of Hidden Figures.  It seems the movie revolves around Octavia Spencer's character so i don't know why she would be here for supporting actress..

Is the viola davis hype train dead ??? Because michelle williams has won so many recent awards

naw i still think Viola got it. some performances get less critical traction but are the type of roles that do better w/ oscars. 4 example octavia spencer barely won any critics awards, i think they all went to jessica chastain that year, but when the tv awards like the globes and SAG came around octavia started sweeping. so we should know for sure if viola got it tonight w/ the globes.

Taking a quick look back at 2011 (not exhaustive, just looking at more major precursors:

Spencer: Globes, BAFTA, BFCA, SAG, DC Film Critics

Chastain: Chicago Critics (for Tree of Life), LA Critics (for 6 films combined), National Society of Film Critics (combined for Take Shelter, Tree of Life, The Help), New York Critics (combined for Take Shelter, Tree of Life, The Help), Online Film Critics Society (for Tree of Life), Satellite Awards (Tree of Life), Toronto Critics (for Take Shelter)

Yeah, Chastain had a big presence in early precursors, but she got hamstrung because LA and NY basically gave her a cumulative award, which hurt going for any particular movie to push.

whether you think she's lead or not i'm glad this became the viola davis category. if not for her it probably would be naomie harris vs. michelle williams and i just watched both movies the last couple days. overall as films they're exceptional but harris and williams are NOT GOOD. Capital A acting in two movies with very naturalistic ensembles. williams is fine until her "moment" that all the critics love. she looked like she was trying to make her self cry. even in viola's theatricality (which actually fits the tone of the picture she's in) she finds subtler notes than both of them.

Viola Davis for Fences

Naomie Harris for Moonlight

Nicole Kidman for Lion

Octavia Spencer for Hidden Figures

Michelle Williams for Manchester By The Sea

Not quite sure who to put for my alt yet.

Viola Davis deserves the oscar for she was a beast in that role

but also to be fair she did have a lot of space to do that compared to the others , she is practically lead actress nominated for supporting , like Vikander last year

the academy needs some rules to prevent such cases
