I wonder if perhaps I underestimated the factor of showtimes starting at 6PM on Thursday, when considering what the increase from Friday business would be. Did Furious 7 start at 8?

Yes. FF7 started later.

10% higher drop than Furious 7 and 15% higher than THG

$50m would be a 8% drop from "true" Friday business. Furious 7 dropped 9.7% from "true" Friday business. Hunger Games did not open on Good Friday, so it's a pointless comparison.

We'll see. If it matches Furious 7 with a 2.4 multiplier, that would actually be pretty good considering the disastrous critical reception and mixed audience response.

170 x 2.4= 408 + 700 OS= 1.1 WW Warner is laughing at the critics all the way to the bank

24% drop on Sunday seems too optimistic. Likely 28-30%. But anyway, at $167m weekend and 2.4 multiplier it would end up at nearly $401m. If it can get to $390m on its own, WB will open the Fudge Floodgate to reach $400m.
