Deadline: In eight offshore markets on Wednesday, it put $7.9M in the international box office tank. Include previews in 12 others and that figure rises to $19.7M.

 

Meanwhile in China, pre-sales totaled $43.5M two hours before Thursday midnights began. That is an all/time record.

Universal’s eighth instalment in the action franchise scores biggest opening of year-to-date everywhere in first wave.

 

The Fate Of The Furious  sped out of the blocks on Wednesday, earning an estimated $7.9m from eight territories and $17.9m overall including paid previews from an additional 20 territories.

The figure does not include $43.5m in pre-sales in China, where Thursday midnight screenings have begun as part of a weekend roll-out in 63 territories including North America.

Highlights so far include the biggest opening day of all time in Egypt and Indonesia, top franchise opening days in Belgium and South Korea besides Egypt and Indonesia, and biggest paid previews in Malaysia, Singapore, Venezuela and Vietnam.

Early estimates show China’s Friday box office at $55.2M (that is not included in the $82.2M gross). If that estimate holds, it will be the biggest opening day of all time in China for a film as well as the biggest single-day box office in the Middle Kingdom and the biggest Friday ever.

More from Deadline; It had the biggest opening day in 11 markets — Argentina, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Israel, Lebanon, Malaysia, Peru, Portugal and U.A.E. In addition, it enjoyed the biggest opening of all the previous franchise films in 25 markets, including Germany, Italy, Korea and Mexico.
The film also nows holds the studio’s best in 14 territories, including Argentina, Colombia, Germany, and Mexico.

It's on track for at least 600 from US and China combined (600 is conservative).

So needs 400 more. F7 did 742 in OS-China.

Even if F8 drops by 45% from that, it will make it to 400+ OS-China.
