It also has the inherent problem " I will be taking by kids to see the local production of The Nutcracker in a fee weeks anyway, why bother with this?".

That sounds like a very niche problem.

Not really. In the US, people who never woutl think of going to see any other ballet go see "The Nutcracker". Most ballet companies depend on the money they make from the Nutcracker to keep them afloat and fiancé their other productions. In smaller cities, companies are formed just for the purpose of putting on the Nutcracker with the help of the local symphony orcherstra. The Tchakovksy music has become a essential part of the Holiday season.

All in all, that is one hell of bunch of things to compete with.

And this has what exactly to do with this movie? Nobody's gonna decide whether or not they want to see this just because of a local production of The Nutcracker.

The "Meh" reception the footage shown at Cannes got, plus the Freeman Scandal, and general lack of buzz on this make this the most lilkely of the remaining Disney releases to bomb this year.

And if Disney were that confident in this, why open it in early November instead of at Thanksgiving in place of Wreck it Ralph, which is a less Holiday themed movie?

Traditionally Christmas themed films open the 1st or 2nd weekend of November. Its not a disney thing as much as it is a clock thing. Opening them at Thanksgiving doesnt give enough time for films that generally die after dec 25th.

I give it a few years honestly.

The Cannes film festival this year was like a celebration of the Roman Catholic Church during the Inquisition or a film festival organized by the USSR.

Not so long ago, The festival was know to be the center of all sorts of excess and depravation.

#Progress.

It's really not a very effective date actually. Sure you have some like Elf and the Santa Clause movies that did great with early Nov releases, but closer to Thanksgiving is typically a better release for Holiday themed fare.

Considering this is the same studio that doesn't care what Depp or Lasseter did, by the time it comes out, Disney won't care, and mainstream audiences will care even less than they do now.

Not saying this is how it should be, but it is definitely true. Freeman is the least of this movie's roadblocks.

Women trying to accuse Tom Hanks of sexual harassment and abuse in a court of law are probably dying as we speak in horrible, freak, "unlucky" accidents in total indifference  ...

I saw “women trying to accuse Tom Hanks” and immediately freaked out. Don’t scare me like that.

this is going to bomb. I think sub-100m total if Disney doesnt try to do another Wrinkle in Time.

I think it won't even approach numbers that are minimum for fudge. Who is this made for anyway? At least AWIT had some fanbase thanks to the book.
