BLAIR WITCH | Sequel to THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT | 9/16/16 | The Blair Witch returns as The Blair "Blair Witch" Witch

Recommended Posts

Goddammit, I knew I was right to be disappointed they were making a Blair Witch sequel. And on deck for them, Death Note and I Saw the Devil. I really hope they aren't two more wastes of talent. It'd be a real shame for such a promising career to be derailed by a string of unneeded adaptations.

I have faith that they can do I Saw the Devil justice. Death Note is a total mystery to me though. Has there ever been a great North American live-action Manga adaptation?

Closest would be Edge of Tomorrow, which based of a light novel.

 So the budget on this was what?? Around 10-15M or so??? I'm pretty sure this is going to make some $$$$$ and enough to probably recoup it's budget and make it a Hit, even if we don't want it to, it's impossible for it not to for as cheap as it probably cost to make..

The budget is 5 mil. Still, I'm disappointed that a Blair Witch sequel is being predicted to make under what Don't Breathe did. Something got messed up somewhere along the line.

Early buzz had me so hyped but as more reviews come in it's wearing down. Still planning on seeing it and hoping it's at least decent given I love both You're Next and The Guest.

The hype I feel was around how scary it was. And even considering the negative reviews still say it's got some great "scary" scenes, I don't care if the story or character are lame, as long as the film is effective.

Just seen an audience reaction tv spot. Why is this still a thing for every single  horror movie ? Does it really make people go oh look how scared they look the movie must be so terrifying.

Well, for Blair Witch it somewhat makes sense since that is how the first movie was also promoted.

Yeah but it's been overdone to death since then.

I think one of the reasons why this was initially so praised before all these mixed reviews came in was because in its first screening nobody knew it was a Blair Witch movie, it was part of a twist in the film itself. Obviously that factor doesn't work to anyone who knows they're going in to watch a Blair Witch sequel.

Once that factor's gone you're going to have many critics comparing it to the original which is going to lead to some unfavorable reviews given the fact the original was so critically acclaimed. It might have been better off staying The Woods with no relation to Blair Witch.

Well, horror movies are typically just gimmicks anyway, makes sense that they'd be advertised with them

Plotless/characterless "real" footage stuff like Paranormal Activity and comical nonstop goreporn like SAW? Yes.

Stuff like The Shining, Alien, and The Descent?  No.

I did say typically. The auteur horror movies don't come around very often

Well this went from 100% to 43% very quickly.

MovieTickets and tracking suck ($15-20m).

Wish I didn't join that $40m+ club.

At least no matter what the movie has to be better and will do better at the BO than this blair-witch-2.gif.

I had a free movie ticket. That's the only reason why I saw it. I don't feel that it was wasted, but there were more well received movies I could have seen instead. It also isn't at good as The Conjuring 2Lights Out, or Don't Breathe. It's nothing unique, and like most horror movies it didn't scare me in any way.

I think that Lionsgate pretty obviously showed it to a few select critics and bloggers that were friendly and it got them the early 100% reviews and over the top expectations.  It was never anything special and think they will end up hurting themselves using this method as it put expectations that weren't realistic.

Sales look soft and this is headed way under Lights Out and Don't Breathe.
