Recommended Posts

Internationally, Beauty and the Beast delivered an estimated $180 million from 44 material markets for an estimated $350 million global opening (#14 all-time). Of its international openings, Beauty and the Beast opened as the #1 film in all but three markets (Vietnam, India and Turkey), led by an estimated $22.8 million in the UK, the highest grossing three-day opening in the market for a PG movie as well as an estimated $44.8 million in China, already surpassing the entire run in China for Maleficent and Alice in Wonderland. Additional markets include an estimated $11.9 million in Korea; $11.6 million in Mexico; $10.7 million in Germany; $10.4 million in Brazil; $7.6 million in Italy; $6 million in Russia and $5.8 million in Spain.

Using Jurassic World's OS-Ch multiplier would give BatB about $500m from this opening.  Plus China and a couple other markets I think it should be hitting $650m minimum.

450+ domestic, 1.1b is highly likely, with 1.2 very much a possibility.

Don't mess up with Russia. Should have been higher had it not been for the "controversy".

And remember it has not been released in Japan, France or Australia. I expect big figures from those countries.

Thank You! Do you know if they're Disney's own estimates?

Yeah those are Disney estimates. Other industry estimates for the domestic Sunday number are 3-4m higher, and it's a good bet that Disney underestimated the overseas total as well.

My concern for opening weekend in Australia is capacity.  Life, Power Rangers and Boss Baby are also opening this weekend.  The full schedules are now out and BatB has a smaller share of the Large Format and Gold Class screenings then I was expecting.

This is Miranda in Sydney on Thursday.
