I'm usually not happy when films bomb, but if Apocalypse tanking keeps Olivia Munn's ego from getting any larger, it's a good thing.

2.  Nobody wanted a sequel to Alice in Wonderland. Six years is a long time to wait to make a follow-up. Ironically it's much better than the original, but families know what movies they want to save their money for this summer. 

Another piece of the puzzle is that Apocalypse did not offer a compelling hook. It highlighted Jennifer Lawrence and the scope and destruction. But, a lot of it seemed like generic superhero fare.

Yes, WW it passed in by 200M, but I doubt it will reach 1.2B while almost everyone were sure it will at least peak at 1.4B.
