It’s the typical animated teaser. $100M can happen, the whole musical angle and Star power like Zendaya and Common but WAG’s luck with September releases isn’t good. I can still see a small chance TTG overtakes this domestically for WAG’s biggest film in 2018.

A TV spot before a full trailer?

It’s a KCA ad. WB has been doing this with their animated movies since Storks. They did it last year with Ninjago. This year it was TTG and Smallfoot.

Tell that to Ninjago.

To be fair, mixed reviews, a muddled marketing campaign and the show was still strong on Netflix.

But still WAG and September don’t go together, look at Ninjago, Storks or Owls. Thinking there’s a shot at PR numbers are possible, if Lebron and Zendaya come into clutch, and has decent reviews, but I’m not banking on it. A run around Storks is more likely due to Clock the week prior and Goosebumps 2 2 weeks later but I doubt it’ll make the current date.

I personally believe that Ninjago (not as a part of the Lego brand of films but as an animated film) was something that filmgoers don't really go crazy to support. The film had an aura through the marketing that, on the storytelling scale, made it seem like the film was closer to something like Sherlock Gnomes than to something like a Pixar film. But I think Smallfoot will have a better impact because it looks like it will tell a story that potential audience members will be willing to care about. It gives me the kind of 'important story' vibe that How To Train Your Dragon gave me.

I’m betting TTG outdoes Smallfoot even though the latter will likely be better.

Storks IMO should have done a lot better but Ninjago deserved its numbers, it just wasn't good in comparison to previous WAG films. Smallfoot does look very promising and it does seem more in the mold of Storks.

Ninjago sucked. And I was the biggest stanner.
