I have a strong feeling that this could be the 1st billion spider man movie....

With 400 Dom out of question and even 350 in doubt this would need to perform massively in China for that to happen. I dont think 1b is gonna happen but it will outgross WW, Logan, Thor 3 and most like guardians as well. Only JL should outgross SMH

If we use multiple in the past, Marvel movies make anywhere from 15%-29% of their foreign total OW.

GV2 is estimated at $101M.

If it's 15%, GV2 heads for an unlikely $675M OS total.

If it's 29% GV2 heads for an unlikely $348M OS total.

If it's 20% GV2 ends at $506M OS total

It it's 22%, GV2 ends at $460M OS total.

24% takes us to $420M OS.

We should have a better idea, next weekend. Guardians 2 has done a decent increase in Europe from 1, it should increase in SK and China even if not huge increases.

Predictions:

China: $110M

UK: $50M

AUS: $30M

SK: $27M

Germany: $25M

France: $23M

Russia: $20M

Brazil: $20M

Mexico: $20M

Puts it at least $325M, not considering other markets.

If we also look at G1 top 5, it equals $230.3M, about 52% of it's OS gross, assuming these numbers are correct and GV2 is at $242M, it'd end at $460M OS.

Spidey brought home an estimated $140M:

15% gives us an unreasonable: $933M

29% gives us: $482M

20%: $700M

22%: $636M

24%: $583M

Thinking it may be a bit more frontloaded than GV2 so I'm guessing $560M or 25%.

Did they open in the same markets overseas in their OW?? If not then a direct comparision wouldn't really work. So far what we are seeing is that SMH is performing far better than GOTG2 in Asian and Latin american markets whereas GOTG2 performed better in european markets and Australia. This bodes well for spidey in China

About the same for the first OS OW both at 60% of markets minus China.

I think guardians had bigger slice left to open. Plus competition is more now(Apes would do much stronger os than dom, Dunkirk/Valerian etc should do well as well).

It looks equal..most of them are tiny countries, both movies didn't open in China, Japan has always been a good market for Spidey ($40m TASM, $30m TASM2, while GOGT2 did $10m), so that leaves Russia and South Korea for GOTG2 vs Germany, France and Spain for Spidey

I've feeling about that is because of potential of SMH, it's 3rd launch in just 16 years and no sign of fatigue in OS or domestically, if it's so resilient, showing popularity in everywhere, any chance of $1b shouldn't be ruled out....

That is bcos it has Iron Man. Otherwise it would have opened lot lower(less than TASM movies).

While it is true that IM being in this helped the movie, you have no evidence to suggest that it would have opened lower than TASM movies without IM

IMO this spidey being an actually good movie with great criticsl reception helped a lot more than just IM. Also it being in the MCU helped a lot too

I don't know if it will be able to reach one billion worldwide but as i have said many times, unless you are TDK and outperform MASSIVELY at home, there are no cbm entering the billion's club without playing massively in Asia with great numbers in both China and South Korea,at least good numbers in Japan and very good numbers in all the rest asian markets.

Great overall asian numbers are the key for any cbm to have a shot at reaching the billion's club.

Both Avengers movies, IM3 and Civil War all perform far above the other cbm in asian compared to other cbm released around the same period of time.
