For some reason i feel this movie didn't have buzz similar to Dawn.

Even though the critical reception is too good this one suffered from lack of buzz and dwindling interest on apes movies!

In India Dawn and Rise did good business but this one opened to very less numbers.

Even the dubbed versions were not upto the mark!

Looking at the drops it's being showing and assuming it goes down in China (say 85-90 vs 105-110 of Dawn) too, I feel 350-400 OS is on cards.

375 OS + 155 Dom = 530 WW

That's an APOC and DOFP like saga. APOC's WW (544) was close to DOFP's OS (514).

I really wouldn't have called Kong over this at the start of the year. But here we are.

Kong will will all round it seems,

OW 61 vs 56.5

Dom 168 vs 150-155 (2.7-2.75x)

OS 398 vs 350-370 (Guessing 250-270 OS-China + 90 odd China)

WW 566 vs 500-525

Its still a hit for Fox, this is were the 150M budget in comparion with Kongs 185M or Dawns 170M comes into play. And @a2knet youre right Rise did a bit better than First Class, but Dawn and DoFP were very close and War does have a shot at matching :apocalypse:

I think the word "War" is a major deterrent for moviegoers, even for fans of the first 2.

Rise is about escape and Dawn is about struggle. War implies active participation in aggressive

behaviour. Nobody likes a warring ape clan, Dawn is against that idea. And War against humans,

even though it is "bad" humans, make for a rather dark & depressing story for GA and casual fans

looking for fun & lighter fares.

UPDATED: War For The Planet Of The Apes debuted in 61 markets on $44.2m at the weekend as Matt Reeves final instalment of the Planet Of The Apes trilogy starring Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson and Steve Zahn reached $100.7m worldwide after a $56.5m debut in North America.

Only two of the top 10 international markets are currently in release and less than a third of the international marketplace.

The action tentpole produced the biggest opening of the franchise in 28 markets, with an opening weekend that is 61% greater than Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, and on par with Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, in the same group of countries at current exchange rates.

WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES

Led by decent holds in the U.K., Russia, Spain and Hong Kong, the latest in the 20th Century Fox franchise from director Matt Reeves and star Andy Serkis grossed another $17.2M this weekend to bring its international cume up to $77.1M. Globally, War for the Planet of the Apes has taken in roughly $174.9M to date.

The territory leading the charge in the movie’s sophomore frame is the U.K., which was No. 3 in the market behind opener Dunkirk and holdover Despicable Me 3. It picked up $3.37M from its 1,150 screens to bring the UK total to $16.1M. In Russia, Apes ranked No. 2, adding another $1.88M to bring the market cume to $8.8M. It’s on 1,318 screens there.

In Spain, the franchise film was down only 40% and was No. 2 in the market behind Dunkirk. Adding another $1.3M from 618 screens, the market total is $6.2M.

Next weekend will see the Apes swinging into five new markets including Australia and Mexico.

Too early to ask but looking at current performance in other markets, and assuming $85m in China ... where do you think OS will end up? 400 possible?
