Screendaily: Jason Bourne shot to an extra estimated $18.6m from its 59 territories for $119.4m to date after opening in nine more markets.

France and Germany led the new openers with debuts of $3.4m and $3.1m, respectively, and holdover-wise, the UK remains the top market with a $2m third weekend for $23.1m so far.

Its next major release comes in China on Aug 23, followed by Mexico on Aug 26 and Russia and Italy on Sept 1.

Jason Bourne has grossed $160m and arrives in China and Mexico this weekend, while Laika Entertainment’s animation Kubo And The Two Strings on an early $1.3m opens in seven, including Spain.

Powered by a six-day $50m start in China, Jason Bourneshot to an estimated $56.8m from its 62 territories for $198.5m to date overseas.

The result marks the best opening of the series to date in China and the action sequel also arrived in Mexico with a chart-topping $1.5m, while France posted the best holdover with $1.2m for a 19-day tally of $8.3m.

Jason Bourne will become the highest-grossing Bourne film at the international box office when it passes The Bourne Ultimatum’s $202m result on Monday [Aug 29]. It opens in Greece, Italy and Russia on Sept 1 and Japan on Oct 7.

As expected, Jason Bourne is now the highest grossing outing of the series overseas as an estimated $12m weekend from its 64 territories lifted it to $223m.

The action sequel opened in the likes of Russia ($2.1m) and Italy ($1.2m), while its second weekend in China saw it shoot to $3.8m for $63.2m. It opens in its final territory of Japan on Oct 7.
