How so?

Prometheus opened at $6.7m in Australia, Alien at $3.1m.

UK: $9.5m x $6.4m
France: $6.6m x $4.5m
Spain: $4.2m x $1.9m
Mexico: $3.1m x $2.4m

It decreased pretty much in most of Prometheus' major markets, I would say that it is looking to a total just barely above $200m without China. Unless it over-perform in China, I can't see it surpassing $220m OS. And I doubt it will surpass $100m DOM with an OW under $40m.

From the trailer alone, I seem to be missing the feeling of the grand mystery of the Prometheus. Looks like a generic Alien sequel

It never had the same buzz of Promtheus, I remember that Prometheus was the most hyped original movie of 2012. Taking off 3D from Alien was the worst decision that they could have made, considering how big the 3D share of Prometheus was.

Not in 3D? Didn't know that

Told you bitches that this ain't gonna do all that well because of lack of 3d atleast 4 months ago. Moreover, it looked generic. A 110m r rated gorefest not having 3d...Clearly fox was mixed on this film and axed the conversion.

Sub 100M domestic + sub 190 OS

260-280 WW

No surprise. Propmetheus wasn't exactly beloved and this one has Fassbender x 2.

woah...that's worrisome.

edit: Looks like this is an exchange rates isssue. But still, it dropped 40% in AUS in local currency. Which would give a 31 ow dom (-40% of PTHEUS's 51).

I think it can get to 40 ow but going by AUS looks like that's the most.

I think Prometheus was helped overseas by being promoted more as a 3D spectacle movie rather than an Alien movie

Also Scott's name made it seem like a legit Alien movie after a long time.

The trailer was also very nostalgic with the way the fonts/title showed up etc.

Well, let's be honest, I hated the movie, but the only reason why it is decreasing is because of the lack of 3D plus way worse ER, with 3D, it would at least stay flat from Prometheus' numbers. Alien is the real brand here.

Hollywood Reporter has the production budget at $97M. Perhaps the earlier $110M figure was gross before tax breaks.

Or maybe they reduced the figure to look good just incase the box-office is below expectations. That's standard hollywood operating procedure.
