My mom is nearly 51 years old and walked out of the movie saying it was one of the funniest movies she's ever seen.  My audience also had quite a bit of older females/older males in the audience, which I would say reaches past the target demo of young males, and all of them were laughing hysterically throughout it.

The food orgy scene had the biggest laughs for any movie I've ever seen since Brick's funeral scene at a packed theater of Anchorman 2 on opening night.

This is all anecdotal, though.

Technically, Sausage Party IS well received animation. :redcapes:

Hahahahaha, I legit wasn't even thinking of SP as animation when I typed that.  Still think WOM could be an irrelevant case for it though if it can't appeal outside of a niche audience. Think Kick Ass, but with a higher OW. We'll see.

Kinda random, but anyone remember when Snakes on a Plane was supposed to be "huge"  because of the internet hype? You know, back when MySpace was still like the only form of social media. :P

There was a song too for it. Those were the days

Didn't a lot of the hype center around the Youtube trailer views? Nevermind the fact that YT was in its infancy and the trailer probably only had like 1m views.

Read the movie's Trivia page on IMDB:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0417148/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv

Problem was that by the time the movie came out, everyone was completely in on the joke.

Haha, I totally don't remember the re-shoots thing and famous line being put in because fans had made it up on the internet.

Speaking of snakes, do you know Anaconda's adjusted gross will be higher than Ghostbusters?

The movie probably would've been more financially successful had they stuck with what the movie originally started out as (a PG-13 thriller that was turned into a campy R-rated horror/comedy).

Next weekend's gonna be tight. Could see five films within the 15-20m range (and none of them are gonna be Ben Hur).

If I had to pick now:

Suicide Squad: 20.7m (-53%)

War Dogs: 18m

Sausage Party: 17.2m (-49%)

Kubo: 15.8m

Pete's: 14.5m (-31%)

Dory at 897M right now, and w/a bunch of territories that are fond of animation left to open, I think that billion position is pretty safe now.

Lights Out at 100M WW. That's pretty awesome. Expect the James Wan Horror Cinematic Universe coming soon

JWHCU? JWHEH?

That's a small drop for SP.
