Digital TV demand for series in the United States (05 – 11 January 2020)

https://www.parrotanalytics.com/insights/digital-tv-demand-for-series-in-the-united-states-05-11-january-2020/

We are now two weeks in and already 2020 is shaping up to be different from 2019. In 2019, the most demanded show in the USA tended to stay that way for months at a time: HBO’s Game Of Thrones dominated the first half of the year and Netflix’s Stranger Things the second half. However, this year we have two series battling for the top spot. After Disney+’s The Mandalorian arrived in November 2019 and quickly reached the top of the chart, there was a surprise upset in the last week of the year when Netflix’s The Witcher took the top spot. Last week, The Mandalorian ended on top again for the first chart of 2020 and now this week, The Witcher leads once again. It is a narrow lead though, with only a 2% difference between the two shows.

I've finally had time to watch a few episodes and so far it seems kind of.... dull?

funny to see articles how The Mandalorian is saving Star Wars, the show isn't doing anything groundbreaking. I mean the show is good enough but in the peak tv era the show is nothing special. I personally prefer all the Disney movies over Mandalorian besides the forgettable SOLO.

The Mandalorian strikes back ;)

Once again, we have a switch in the most demanded show in the United States. The Mandalorian and The Witcher have been jockeying for the top spot over the past month. Last week The Witcher led in demand, but this week The Mandalorian returns as number one. With the next most demanded show having around 20% less demand than The Witcher, it seems like this particular fight for American audiences will continue for some time.

I think some people here definitely underestimated (and still underestimate) just how much a Star Wars TV show that isn't about saving the galaxy or epic scope and focuses on a handful of relatively average people (compared to the heroes of the movies) getting stuff done appeals to a lot of Star Wars fans.

We don't need to have every movie, show, and story being about a mighty powerful Jedi fighting equally powerful avatars of evil with the fate of trillions in the balance. So a story that changes up from that was a refreshing change of pace.

Spoiler

And yes, Solo was the same sort of thing and it yes it flopped, but we can also acknowledge there was a lot of baggage (and mediocre marketing) going into that release from the start, along with other factors

This particular character is going to end up having more screen time in the franchise than any of the Skywalkers lmao

Because Ashoka is unique. One of the best female character ever written.
