Biggest sequel under performance of 2016 (DOM) January-September

2016 saw a bunch of sequels/reboot and the majority of them ended up grossing less than their previous entry.  What do you consider is the worst performance for a sequel DOM so far this year?

Gotta be between Alice 2 and Independence Day 2.

No question it's Alice 2. Ice Age 5 was terrible, though.

While Alice 2 had the bigger drop off, Independence Day 2 was way more shocking. Everyone had Alice as a major underperformer, but ID4 was a cultural touchstone for a lot of people. Its sequel barely crossing 100M in the US was a major shocker.

Independence Day 2's performance didn't shock me at all, really. I've never heard anyone talk about that movie in real life.

 

I thought Alice 2, being a sequel made in a timely manner of 6 years after the original, would have been at least passed $100m dom.

Alice 2, everyone knew it was going to go down alot but not even hitting $100m was something else. ID2 was pretty close though, I thought it would cross $200m. and it barely scratched $100m.

NYSM : From 118M$ to 65M$

Neighbors : From 150M4 to 55M$

MBFGW : From 241M$ to 60M$ (don't think anyone was expecting anything close to the original on this though...)

Huntsman : From 155M$ to 48M$

GND : From 61M4 to 21M$

Batman (from TDKR) : From 448M$ to 330M$

Yeah, I imagine if you had told the makers of MBFGW 6 months before the original's release, that the sequel would break $60M, they would have been delighted.
