Kalo Posted September 12, 2016 Share Posted September 12, 2016 After watching alot of movies, I've noticed a ton of fantastic performances that didn't even garner a nomination from the academy. so I thought we could start a thread for actors you felt were completely snubbed or maybe one who was nominated but lost to a performance you felt to be inferior. this can be for an actor or actress in any category. I obviously haven't seen every film nominated for an oscar so my opinion might change for some of these once I watch more movies. but off the top of my head here are some performances I felt were completely snubbed. (there seems to be a tread against nominating young male actors in Hollywood) 1971 Timothy Bottoms for the Last Picture Show, not only did he give the best performance in the whole movie but one of the best performances I've ever seen by an actor under 30. (for best actor in a leading role) 2005 Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Brady Corbet in Mysterious Skin (both for actor in a leading role) 2014 - Felicity Jones should have won best actress for Theroy of Everyhting - no offence to Julianne Moore who was great in Still Alice. But Jones gave the performance of her career in that film and elevated a film I otherwise didn't care much for. Miles Teller for Whiplash and Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler (replacing Benedict Cumberbatch and Bradley Cooper) 2015 Alicia Vikander - Should have been nominated for Ex Machina not The Danish Girl. but whatever. kind of felt Winslet gave the best supporting performance. (Rooney Mara was the lead in Carol and should have been nominated as such) Benicio Del Toro in Sicario (for best actor in a supporting role) Jacob Tremblay for Room (for best actor in a leading role) (replacing Eddie Redmayne) I'll add more as I watch more or think of more.
