down to 29 players. we were holding 45+ for months, I thought we would have started increasing at some point

The wild life could be a Derby killer for some if it drops 70%+ like Norm did, another poorly received movie that held well its second weekend but got crushed when panda came out.  AB also drop 70% when it went up against FD. Otherwise there shouldn't be any other surprises this weekend should see some scores back in the 90s.

Where have our players gone?  Pretty soon there will only be 20 of us.

Maybe to see Joe dimaggio

Didn't BOM have 100 players weekly?

Deadlines fri multies were off when compared to last year and last week.  I adjusted. They came out early, safe to assume Friday estimates are off as well.  No est for TWL. I put in 1m, 10% lower than Kubo, I think it'll be lower though.

I punched in various numbers as possiblities and @moviecriticguy always stays on top. The rest shifts a bit. Good luck for battle of second.

God damn Storks ruined my first week of this game.

Any reason why in the weekly standing I don't show up at all for this week?

Edit: How in the seven hells did The Wild Life drop 80 god damn percent?

Maybe they're interested but just keep missing the deadline.

I've missed it the last 2 weeks and I run the game.

However I have tried to think of ways to get more people involved.

One of the problems is that you guys are too damn good and it's hard to win a week/month/season/year.

I'm open to ideas on how to make the game more enjoyable week to week for the casual players.

I was hoping the tournaments would bring in people but I'm not sure that's worked out.

I could see where it would be daunting just to jump in though this last month has shown how unpredictable it can be (and awful some of the top players can be. ahem.).

Maybe a prize (a week free membership) for newbie players - the best results for first time players or those who've played less than say 5 or 10 times?

From a general observation, it seems BOT has a large number (many hundreds?) of users that have never played the Derby.  I'd have to figure a percentage of them would be up for giving it a shot, so is it a question of visibility/awareness?  Discussing box office and predicting it goes hand-in-hand for many; I think we could expand the pool of players to a solid number if we can get the word out here on BOT.  Not sure what would be too intrusive - a banner at the top of the home page, a pop-up for any user signing in, etc.  I know the Derby started off very promising and, unless countless dozens became immediately discouraged, there has to be a reason for the steady decline.

How did BOM maintain consistent participation?  If memory serves, they always had 100-200 players during non-peak months and 400-500 during the summer/holidays (or when a major event film was opening).

I never played them but didn't BOM have a link to the Derby on their main site page so anyone checking for numbers would have seen it?

This doesn't have the same kind of front page so a banner could help as well as reminders/prompts in the Daily or W/E Number threads.

Yes, BOM had a visible "Derby" link on the left side of the homepage - hard to miss.  I was sad when BOM threw in the towel, thrilled to see it resurrected here, and believe we'll see participation grow.  Perhaps we'lost some players when school started again though it doesn't take but a few minutes to at least toss up some predictions.
