Well yeah, of course my dad was aware it was based on Seven Samurai. 

The difference is, this IS a remake of the 1960 Magnificent Seven. Which wasn't a remake of Seven Samurai. Based on it yes. But it was a totally different type of movie. Western for starters. 

 

I've just seen the new one. Liked it fine. Nowhere near as good as the original, but like someone above just said - it's inviting comparisons.

I read on THR that The Dressmaker comes out this weekend in the US... I saw it about a year ago, it's fantastic. If you want to watch a proper western, go see that.  It's fab.
