For someone that hates superhero movies so much, you’ve sure seen a lot of them. And it’s hard to take someone that uses the word “kiddie” in their argument seriously. Such a juvenile critique. Yeah, I’m sure the kids just loved the filicide and genocide in Infinity War.

Is there a general formula? Sure, but that literally comes down to “protagonist goes through hardship to succeed in the end”, a formula that goes back centuries in storytelling and is surely present in all of your favorite movies. Do they try to be crowd pleasing? Absolutely, it’s called a blockbuster. But no heart? Give me a break. You don’t make millions of people cry over a character that wasn’t treated with heartfelt storytelling.

No one’s saying you have to like them but get off your high horse with that “kiddie garbage” crap.

There's nothing juvenile about it, I watched Shazam yesterday and yeah of course it's kiddie. The movie practically turned into Power Rangers at the end, a bunch of kids turning into adults wearing different colour suits but still acted like small children while fighting ugly monsters? It was even more kiddie than the actual recent Power Rangers movie.

The only reason Endgame had heart was because people like and have grown familiar with Iron Man. Same thing with Logan. Characters who've been in over half a dozen movies in over a decade and it's still less emotional and memorable than Mufasa's death from the original movie when he had less than 10 minutes of screen time.

Otherwise there was nothing emotional about Captain Marvel, Aquaman, Black Panther, Ant-man, Justice League, Doctor Strange etc because they're all the same. Not a shred of emotion in them but instead a huge amount of silly jokes and pop culture jokes.

You know what actually is juvenile? Guardians of the Galaxy 2's humour, "Oh I have sensitive nipples", "I have famously large turds", "You shouldn't have squished my Walkman!" and people say this is one of the funnier ones.

It's gone that bad that an actual cool character like Thor has now been reduced to a fat slob who plays Fortnite because the kiddies sure love that Fortnite!

You can like them if you want and movies for kids aren't necessarily bad but these superhero movies are kiddie as all hell and they're all the same mediocre movie almost every time. Something like Man of Steel comes out and people actually complain about it because "Ewww it's so dark, why aren't there any jokes in it!" Which because of that we know had to have the corny joke fests that are Justice League and Shazam.

I always love how the biggest haters of Superhero movies (and other popular genres) always seem to have watched all of them.

Like, is that some sort of advanced masochism?

You can't know whether you hate a film until you watch it though..

Well, you can watch two or three and confirm you don't like the genre ... but the 23 of them just to feel legitimated to criticize them is kind of modern masochism .

But he clearly doesn't dislike the genre, since he said he loves The Dark Knight?

Not enjoying individual films does not mean you should avoid all films in that genre.

What would be the point in exclusively watching films that you're confident you'll enjoy, anyway?

But if I hadn't watched them then you'd be whining about that instead.

Ditto, romantic movies are yuck. I have like very few of romantic movies, exceptions if you can say, and dislike almost all of them even if they are classics or whatever.

But I never said I couldn't stand superhero movies, I already said the two Avengers movies as well as the new Spider-Man and The Dark Knight were good movies.

Doesn't mean they don't have a number of flaws and most of them are the exact same children's movie over and over. For every Deadpool you get like five Guardians of the Galaxy 2's.

The fact the film made as much as it did given so many demographics were unsatisfied with it is proof of what a lot of us were saying about just how gigantic The Lion King is. I do think it pretty well reached its potential overseas - in fact, given the reactions and reviews I'm pleasantly surprised it did as well as it did overseas! - but I firmly believe it could have added at least another $150M to $200M domestic to its cume if it hit all the right notes.

This was a very whatever movie really...

It added nothing different and at times the film never reached the original at key moments.

Elton John is correct. The music absolutely sucked in comparison to the original. Be prepared was better and maybe one or two others. The rest sucked big time. Beyonce's song was crap (and I'm a stan of hers btw).

It's what made the movie mediocre.

Saw it two days ago. Despite agreeing that some songs were off and that Glover and Queen Bey voices were off especially how good the cube voices were, this film is a technological marvel. The effects on this thing are absolutely insane, and while I obviously prefer the original, I kinda think that a whole new generation of kids will grow up with this film as "their" Lion King, and that's okay. Rogen as Pumbaa was great.

Be prepared was awful in the new movie. The original was a classic (my favorite song from the original)

Wow really? It's supposed to be dark not silly like in the movie. I loved scar in the movie. Felt so real.

On the other hand, Beyoncé‘s The Gift was really good, maybe the best thing thing that came out from the whole LK hype. It fits the themes of the movie so well, it is really rare these days that I don’t skip the interludes.

To be fair, the new one COULD ahve been great IF it had all been like the end. The last 10 seconds or so of the song were sung, and sung INCREDIBLY well which gave the song a menacing feel. Apparently they didn't have Be Prepared sung much because his actor didn't like to sing or something, in which case why hire him for the role?

Watched the original movie this evening. Pretty hard to believe that the new one finished below $550m domestic. $190m opening in July with a family audience should have led to a $600+ million gross. And honestly, the original is so damn good...the remake should/could have gone north of $700 million. It's surprising that they were not able to stick the landing on this one for stronger WOM. But Disney laughs all the way to the bank regardless of what the number is.
