I see a lot of facial emotions and joy in that picture.

Exactly. Even though Foster is smiling in that clip. This should put the rest any concerns of there being no emotions in the animals faces.

Mufasa is literally laughing at this point in the trailer. It could even be considered that he's smiling when doing so.

I only see a lion with his eyes closed and a half open mouth... You're not gonna convince me that counts as a smile...

If Simba wasn't tackling him it'd look like Mufasa got shot.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT:

I might as well add: that is a gorgeous shot in every level. Look at the insects, the grass interaction, it's gorgeous. Only Mufasa's mane is a bit iffy as the hairs don't seems to collide among each other.

The visuals are gorgeous, but I'm calling it as I see it. There is no emoting going on there.

If it were truly live-action, Mufasa would eat Simba in that scene. But that's why I am okay with it being computerized.

This movie also has a spiritual element to it that Star Wars and Avatar had and it's something that Avengers lacks

"But what about the soul stone/dimension?"

It's quite different especially in the feeling

TLK has a spiritual philosophy/values that is universally relatable (Mufasa's teachings) much like The Force or the pagan religion of Eywa

The Mufasa ghost scene will definitely be a religious experience for me

Never thought I would see someone argue that The Lion King remake had a soul.

Lions are not prone to killing their own offspring.  Making sure their genes are the ones to survive is of paramount importance.

Just call it Photorealistic Animation and call it a day.

BTW, that GIF with cub Simba and Mufasa is beautiful.

The Good Dinosaur had photorealistic animation, therefore, The Good Dinosaur is live action.

Yeah, but Good Dinosaur has very stylized characters that happens to be in a photorealistic enviroment while Lion King is going for full realism with both the characters and it's enviroment, therefore Good Dinosaur is still an animated movie.

Dinosaur (2000) also had interesting animation. While the enviroment in that movie is live action, the dinosaurs & some other creatures themselves are animated with more realistic designs...and yet that film counts as an animated film.

This TLK is pretty much like that film...expect it’s with African animals and treated as live action.

while most people have problem with facial expressions or lack thereof, I think it's stupid that Scar speaks British despite living with American speaking animals and being related to a number of them. where did he learn that stuffy accent? ;)

99% a July date in China.

So it's possible that it could go against Pets2 in China?

Unusual for a Hollywood movie isn’t it?
