Official BOT top 150 Animated Movies Countdown

120th - It's Such a Beautiful Day

55pts - 3 votes, 1 1st place (2014: N/A)

Umm... yes, the story of a stick figure with a heart of gold (maybe)

This placed really high among the 3 people who voted for it (I may suspect also the only three people to have seen it?) and suggests that this is something which is great for fans of this style of cinema.

It is so far outside my scope of knowledge though that the Hubble Telescope wouldn't be about to find me I am so far away from said scope.

119th - Watership Down

55pts - 4 votes, 1 top 5  (2014: 194th: Up 75)

Yeah, Zootopia this film ain't...

Forget your Bambis and N.I.M.Hs, this was the film to give 7 year old me more nightmares than any other animation (I would not see another film to scare me as much as this one until Ghost).

Watership Down is fucked up. Rabbits should not be blood-covered vampire spawn. They just shouldn't. The film is great and I even voted for it despite the traumas. But yeah, it's a brutal film.

Big increase from 2014 too

I see we're getting into the interest stuff. :)

The next 10 films contain 3 Disney, 2 Japanese, 3 (or 4) films that could have been potentially disqualified under different rules for what I allowed as animation, 1 essentially Dialogue-less film and a little something that @Nutella of Arabia thanks the great sun god every day for its continued inclusion of his favourite animated characters ever...

118th - The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

56pts - 4 votes, 1 top 5  (2014: 134th: Up 16)

The title sounds like a Thai film that gets nominated for Foreign Language Oscars to me, but that may just be me.

Another film to receive a small pocket of very strong votes. It's a film that I know absolutely nothing about and further embarrasses me as someone who thinks they can host a best animation list countdown. Clearly I am an Ice Age and Turbo-loving troglodyte (actually, I really liked Turbo :D )

16 places is a good increase too, a sign that Japanese animation will show strongly this list???

117th - Shaun the Sheep

59pts - 6 votes,  (2014: N/A)

I wanted to force myself to watch this, I really did.

Everything I hear about this film is how charming and wonderful it is and it probably is. I just can't get past the almost Peanuts-like way of speaking from the characters (One of the things I hate about Charlie Brown...)

The film clearly looks like it will charm you, or turn you off within minutes and I am still yet to take the plunge. Let's see how the film fairs in the 2018 list.

Oh, wow, it's the first appearance of a movie I voted for!

I put it forward because I was impressed at how it told a story with no dialogue.

I don't get what you mean by "Peanuts-like way of speaking", because those movies actually have dialogue. And the Shaun the Sheep characters don't sound like the distorted trombone Peanuts adults either.

116th - The Rescuers

59pts - 6 votes,  (2014: 81st Down 35)

Such an underrated Disney Franchise this one.

The Rescuers achieved something that arguably no other Major Disney film has done: Brought us more than one great film in the same franchise. (I doubt/hope I will be able to say this in 5 years time).

Porn in the window aside, The Rescuers is a lovely little adventure with two lead characters that defy their short statures to constantly save the day. It is worthy of a higher position than 116 in my opinion, but then I am a heathen that has only watched the Rio Franchise (Although again, 2 more underrated gems right there :) )

35 places is a sharp fall

115th - The Polar Express

64pts - 6 votes, 1 top 10  (2014: 85th Down 30)

Yeah, I ummed and ahhed about mo-cap animation briefly and then decided that it was of course animation.

Maybe CGI Tom Hanks freaked me out, or I was too busy rewatching Land Before Time 7, but I just never saw this film. The animation style does turn me off to be fair, but that should be something one can see past if the film quality is up there. Mocap animation seems to be slowly ceasing to be a thing it seems.

A drop of 30 places is pretty steep, Wonder what that is a sign of...

114th - Despicable Me 2

64pts - 8 votes, (2014: 67th Down 47)

Yay for Minions!!!

A hefty drop probably due to the film being very fresh in the memory back in 2014 compared to now (Will Minions or SLOP profit from their newness this year?). Despicable Me 2 is a good sequel in my opinion. Not an improvement on the original, but still an entertaining film that has a lot of rewatchability and of course angry purple minions.

How many times will we see Illumination again?

The Polar Express was borderline on my list for that reason. I liked the story, but the animation style took a bit of getting used to.

I have memories of this film all right. one Christmas all my family was renting two cabins, and I stayed in was the one my sister and Brother-in-law were staying in. the next morning my brother-in-law popped it in thinking it was a kids movie. Yeah not really I was ironically also seven, I still haven't watch since, I am planing to next month though, because it is part of my Scavenger Hunt that I made for November.

Didn't you say you'd have your own countdown of best animated features?

That's the plan, although I'm not entirely sure when I'll have the time to do all the write-ups. NaNoWriMo is coming up fast, and that's going to eat up my November. Plus I need to get my Winter Game predicts and stuff done in the next couple weeks.

So it might have to happen in December.
