Weekend Thread: Accountant 24.7M, Kevin Hart 11.9M, GOTT 11.9M, Peregrine 8.9M

Warner Bros. is reporting that their latest Ben Affleck drama thriller, The Accountantmade $1.35M last night. That figure inches out the $1.25M made by Affleck’s fall thriller two years ago, Gone Girl. However, The Accountant isn’t expected to close its weekend ledgers with the same three-day posted by Gone Girl. Projections have Accountant between $15M-$20M (many at $20M), which is the mean range for most Affleck openers. Like The Girl on the Train last weekend, Accountant, arrives to the B.O. had middling reviews with a 49% Rotten Tomatoes score, and for an adult-skewing fall pic such as this, that’s not apt to spur a ton of business.

That's a really good #. Despite the terrible reviews, the marketing was on point, which will save the movie.

The reviews are more mixed than outright negative (it's at 49% on RT right now). I think they were less detrimental to this movie than they were to The Girl on the Train last weekend.

Pretty much a GOTT type-opening is in store

Bigger previews and less rush factor because no book fanbase. It should do around 28M. Really strong considering most sites were predicting 16-18M.

With a budget of 44M and a fairly decent marketing campaign, this probably needs 100M WW to break even. Should hit that mark.

It is gonna do like 80-90M in America alone lol.

tbh the marketing for The Accountant in the past few weeks has been really solid. I wasn't sure if "Rain Man meets The Bourne Identity" was very enticing to audiences but the marketing did its job. Fall has been kind to the many adult-skewing pictures overall.

niversal has the stand-up feature Kevin Hart: What Now? which the comedian has been promoting during his comedy tour. It’s expected to make $10M-$14M. Last night the pic grossed $739K from 2,054 theaters starting at 7PM

Solid for The Accountant it shows that Ben Affleck's star power and a decent looking film could bring in audiences and make north of $20 million. Also not bad for Kevin Hart but nothing amazing though. But keep in mind this is a stand-up film which normally don't do blockbusters and it could beat The Original Kings Of Comedy's debut 16 years ago, and overall be another profit for Universal.
