X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX | June 7 2019 | Fox | Simon Kinberg to direct | Delayed to June

Editing is so bad in dialogue-heavy sequences. Only accentuates the flat performances and first draft dialogue even more.

Everything character-related, apart from Xavier's arc, feels perfunctory, stripping away what distinguished the X-Men franchise from the other, current, franchises. Every good X film was interested about its core characters.

As someone who thought Jlaw was acceptable to good in the previous movies, she was phoning it in hard in this one.

They could've at least have given him a grey dye job. A young looking but grey haired magneto is true to the source material.

So Peter Travers gave this movie his very first one star review.

He’s given plenty of one star reviews before.

It's gonna be a bloodbath.

Brazil is pretty into X-Men and there were like 15 people in my screening.

Why are you wasting your valuable time reading something about a movie you won't waste time watching?🤔

Aw this was the quote I read but not sure where it comes from.

"This marks the first time Rolling Stone critic Peter Travers has ever awarded a movie one star in his review. Some famous close calls in the past were "The Matrix Revolution" and "Showgirls", each of which received one and a half star."

I'm here to watch the bonfire. And I'm on lunch at work. I'll get more enjoyment reading people shit on this movie than watching this movie if that's where you're going with this post?

7 X-Men Movies

3 Logans

2 Deadpools

12 movies in 19 years

Not bad.

RIP the Fox-X-Men CU.

Now here comes the humor, quips and daylight scenes for all your viewing pleasure.

Listening now to Zimmer's score. It's formulaic and unmemorable, to say the least. A shame the theme by Ottman is lost. WTF?

Zimmer, who was once one of the best  current film composers, has been phoning it in for a couple of years now.

because we are interested in the film business as a whole, and not just a specific film or franchise, as hard as that might be for some to understand.

Well as expected it is flopping

You get any numbers yet?

It's a critical disaster, yes, but some badly reviewd movies have gone on to be nox office hits.

I think this is going to either bomb or underperform pretty badly, but let's wait until we get some solid numbers.

But those low audience scores are bad news.given how inflated those usually are. iIf you get anything below 85% you are in trouble.

Now comes the true X-Men films that will rival avengers in box office grosses and present us with some epic adventures instead of the shitfests that Fox gave us. Fox managed to fuck up the dark Phoenix story twice, congrats, but they gave us a spaghetti western-style R-Rated wolverine film, so edgy....

Kinda sad to see the Fox X-Men go out with a whimper like this, given that there are quite a few good films among the bunch. To me, Days of Future Past being legitimately great and not a clusterfuck is an accomplishment up there with getting the Avengers to work.

A lot of Zimmer's score is dull droning, but some of it is a complete 90s Zimmer resurrection, and that's always a blast. At its most melodramatic it's almost Broken Arrow levels of ham. Fun.
