Im guessing they were meant to be Skrulls but Fox found an issue with their claim to those characters and very quickly swapped them out for the generic aliens we get here.

They are d’bari. A race of Marvel aliens that... just exist in Marvel comics. Why they are the lead villains of a $200m movie is a question for someone else.

Fox Exec: We need an alien threat for our new X-Men

Fox Exec 2: How about skrulls?

Fox Exec: BRILL----

Fox Exec 3: Wait, MCU is using that

Fox Exec: Shit, just put all the other aliens in the MCU in a hat and we'll draw one.

With $36M OW absolutely yes. Probably less than Alita domestically.

Lowest for the franchise.

B-? Holy cow. That’s the final final final nail in the coffin.

And this is why it's a good idea for Disney to give X-Men a much needed 4-5 year vacation before rebooting. Similar to what Sony did with Spider-man Fox ran X-Men into the ground.

They'll be back in 18 months.

Well I certainly didn't think it was terrible but my opinion about this one is getting lower and lower the more I think about it. Was actually decently engaged through the first act as I quite enjoyed the X-Men working as a team. Sophie Turner does a pretty good job with what she's given (which isn't great). But yeah some baffling character choices and some of the worst villains in superhero history along with a completely rushed ending. Slightly better than The Last Stand but worse than Apocalypse IMO.

If reshooting your third act because it's too much like CM's is a path you wanna go down I'm thinking that the ditching the skrulls is already a foregone conclusion by that point.

Toy Story 4 should make a lot of money, but FFH going under $400m wouldn't surprise me

Yeah that would be a real underperformance if Spider-Man only makes $380m.

Karma baby karma. Kinberg needs to look at himself in the mirror and say I did many wrongs before taking the directorial chair on xmen.
