: Paramount’s Amy Adams alien drama Arrival chalked up a notable $1.45M last night at 1,944 locations. By the way that number inches out the $1.4M made by Gravity on its Thursday night 10PM shows; Arrival‘s began at 7PM.  However, Arrival‘s stubs last night are lower than The Martian‘s $2.5M Thursday.

So if Stranged topped 110m last night then it had a nearly 20% increase. Will be curious to see how the other films behaved. 

 

Also, I read BOMs weekend preview a little bit ago and it made my head spin. Does Brad seriously not know or realize WHY Thor 2 behaved the way it did and why Strange increased as much as it did on Tuesday?? He makes himself seem more like an idiot than normal with that article this weekend.

Fuck Dr Strange. After seeing Arrival it seems like an even bigger piece of shit than I thought. Marvel IS evil. Seeing a movie like Arrival made that clear.

Fantastic start for Arrival  Especially as it'll be in only 2300 cinemas.

 

It's a risk but it still paid off, plus expansions between now and thanksgiving will help legs.

Holy hell that's what I'm talking about Arrival!  Paramount needs to expand the fucking theaters next weekend, 2,300 is a joke.  They even gave Ben-Hur 3,000... it's no wonder they're circling the toilet bowl...

Thursday nite gets a bump with Friday being a semi holiday.

The last few previews at 1.2 - 1.35m were mid 20s. I say 22-24m

I'm guessing the low theater count for Arrival was because they weren't sure how audiences would react afterwards when they discovered they weren't getting Independence Day or War of the Worlds.
