kayumanggi
The thread I made for this has gone missing. Anyway, here are some comparisons. 504.2 M THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS (2016, still in release) 291.6 M DESPICABLE ME (2010) Edited January 14, 2018 by kayumanggi
CelestialFairyIX
- $225 - 300+ million domestic - $400 - 500+ million OS - $625 - 800+ million WW I see Sing doing amazing business domestically and grossing lower than Pets overseas. No matter how you slice the pie, Sing is another hotshot win for Illumination as they establish(ed) themselves as the third biggest animation studio worldwide alongside Disney and Pixar. This could be their big, critical breakthrough and truly designate themselves as true commercial and narrative rivals for Disney and Pixar. It'll probably be lower than Pets because it's got a staggered OS release with some early releases and some late releases. The UK where Pets did very well isn't getting Sing until January and only has 2 weeks plus previews until Lego Batman, still think it'll do decently but not huge numbers. Olive
Illumination/Universal’s feel-good “let’s put on a show” show is now playing in just 15 markets with a weekend estimate of $6.6M. The overseas cume is $17.4M. Tuning up early in this bucket of hubs to capitalize on public and school holidays, this is the soft rollout ahead of 35 more markets opening along with North America next weekend. They’ll include Brazil, Mexico and Spain. The Netherlands was a key opening this frame with a great $1.1M start at 142 dates, on pace with holiday comps. Germany held No. 2 behind Rogue One for a $2.7M weekend and an 11-day total of $7.3M.
Purple Minion
Deadline: Whistling a happy tune, Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures’ Sing has pulled in an estimated $24.3M in 56 territories through today. With a $97.8M offshore gross, the Garth Jennings-helmed pic will pass $100M tomorrow. It’s estimated that the worldwide total through Monday will be $281.3M. This weekend’s gross was 32% bigger than last weekend when Christmas Eve and Day fell on Saturday and Sunday. In Australia, the catchy critters culled $3.2M for a $7.8M tally. Per Uni, the pic began behind Moana last Monday, but gained momentum through the week to currently outpace that Disney title by 12%. The opening is a record for an animated film in Oz in December and the biggest Illumination bow ever. In Korea, Sing is at No. 3 behind local pic Master and the debut of Rogue One. The cume there is $7.5M. In Mexico and Spain, Sing is No. 1 for the second consecutive week with cumes of $8.2M in each. Germany’s total after four frames is $13.6M. Next weekend, Sing opens the show in Italy and a handful of other markets. Majors still to come include France, the UK, Russia, Japan and China. Purple Minion
Sing may have a higher gross than Rogue One and Moana in Mexico, it's close to $10M now. Regardless of apparent quality, Illumination is on a roll. Edited January 6, 2017 by Purple Minion
